Quick Winter Project

Something about the arrival of winter gives me the urge to sit behind my sewing machine. I've recently been bitten by the sewing bug again. I have a 20 year old Kenmore sewing machine that has seen better days, but it has served me well thus far. Funny thing is, growing up, I never had any desire to sew. I even petitioned the school administration to let me take Shop instead of Home Ec in high school - and they agreed! I was 26 when I suddenly asked for a sewing machine for my birthday. I think my mother almost fell over.

Recently, I've been working on that quilt for DD, made some potholders, made that apron, and yesterday I made this tied fleece blanket that is sure to see a lot of use this winter.

Don't know why the backing material looks turquoise in the photo - it's really green. Oh and I'm sending out an invitation to anyone who has the urge to help me rid this house of that awful paneling!

I stumbled upon this material a few years ago and just had to get it since it was the same as the material I used to make DDs curtains and quilt. The fabric store is a dangerous place to be. Just remember to print out a 40% off coupon before you enter Hobby Lobby!

This a fun, quick project that can be whipped out in a few hours. I tied this one while watching a couple episodes of the Andy Griffith Show. In fact, I think I'll curl up with it right now - Leave it to Beaver's on! I don't watch much TV, but Opie and Beaver are welcome around here anytime.

Hey,
I love your blanky, I made some for the boys a couple of Christmases ago. They loved them. You certainly keep busy with the hours the good Lord sends!! I am enjoying your pics, wouldn't be the same without them!

I have made those for Christmas and the kids love them! Taylor even took his with him when he relocated...that is what I say instead of....moved out. Sounds less....lonely ~sigh~.

Good job. I hope to have my machine up and running before the end of the day! Yeah...I have finally dejunked about as much as I can stand for a while, not through...but need a break !

Holing up in the sewing room in the winter is the only way I can stay warm! I just finished an adorable cowgirl tote for one of my queens, but I have to go and get ready for tonight, so no more sewing for me. When The Kid and I finish our tie blanket I'll post a pic of us. :)

Oh, and I'll trade your wood paneling for my fake brick paneling in the kitchen. I'm pretty sue I'd come out the winner!

"You look so comfortable, it ought to be illegal"!! Cute apron - ok, I'm online right now looking into Christmas table runners! May have to trade panel labor for quilting lessons. :)

You could always paint the paneling or watch Cottonpicker paint the paneling while you quilt a table runner?!

PS - If you do paint, put on a layer of Kilz first and then your paint!

Blessings!

LOVE the blanket! Each of my boys have one and it's their favorite. I wish I had more time to sew...I've forgotten most of what I learned. I would love to have a room to have just for my business. Sewing, scrapbooking, etc. Oh well, maybe someday!
My friend painted her paneling. It really looks great! Just an idea~
Love your blog...hopped over from RanchWife's blog.

Hey, friend! So nice to have a face with the voice. :-) Saving my pennies so that I can come visit some day (year, decade . . . !).

Love the blanket . . . it's all about being fast and easy!

Oh......so pretty! And you do look warm and cozy! My machine was my grandma's - not sure how old it is. She made beautiful quilts with it. I love it when it gets cold and yucky outside - then I can actually sit inside and do my projects. Right now it's baby blankets - levi patch quilts with fleece lining. I hope to get them finished soon so I can paint. You've inspired me!

I love all the pictures of YOU! and the blanket looks cozy too :)

I know what you mean about the urge to start sewing when it gets cold. So far I've only been cross stitching but sewing may follow.

HI! Thanks for stopping by today, so I could visit you! I love your "Flat Stanley" post!
I wish my 40+ yr old sewing machine wasn't down..(can't find a repair place) I'd take up quilting again after reading about all of your creations.
You know, I've cooked for many a Cowboy crew and I love it. But they go home (to work) afterwards...9 days underfoot tuckers me out! Not as young as I used to be, darned!
Have a great week and I'll stop back in.
