"Clever Girl" Titled Revoked

When I was thinking of adding piping to my Made in Cherry quilt top, I received lots of encouragement. Staci even called me a 'clever girl' and it made my day. Alas, today I stand before you with a bowed head and a pouty face.

Oh. I made the piping. Miles and miles of  beautiful piping. And yes, it was simple so thank you Naomi and Karen for walking me through the process. However, I could not find a way to stitch it to the star and make it look right. Maybe my piping was too thick. It simply would not play nice on the points and once the tears appeared, I just banished it to a dark corner.

So my quilt top is pieced, although it is, and will remain, piping-less:

I'm thinking the piping would have really set this off, but the black binding will have to suffice.

Another incredibly blue sky day here in NM. The weather is forecasting gale force winds today so I scurried out to the horse pens in search of an appropriate photo spot before they hit. It's a glorious morning!

and  it is with deep regret that I hand back my 'clever girl' title to it's rightful owner: Staci . Hope you're feeling better and on the mend Girl!

I say hang on to it for the time being ... after all, one can have clever ideas without necessarily bringing them to fruition, right? You were a clever girl to consider and pursue it. And gosh, it looks AWESOME!! Love it against the bright blue sky backdrop!! :)

Oh NO! I'm glad the whole making piping thing worked out, even though it didn't get into the quilt... what if you just used black bias tape and sandwiched it between the layers with just a 1/4 inch or whatever poking out? That would lay flat, you just might have to fold it around the corners. I dunno. I shouldn't "help" any more. I hate giving up on an idea like that though!!! Regardless, the quilt is absolutely beautiful!

Check out this tutorial for "faux piped binding."

You don't need the piping cord, and the corners are very easy.
(I've also made real piped binding using a large crochet cotton or something equivalent to size 3 pearl cotton or crochet cotton--but I like the faux piping better.)

My thoughts too were do something with the piping and binding. I hate it when a good plan falls apart. You can always use the piping on some pillows:) Carry on!!

Piping or no piping, it is a lovely quilt (and a perfect place to shoot pictures, too.)

I´m sorry to hear that the piping didnt work out :( I had the feeling that you really would love to have it added in the quilt. With or without piping the quilt is wonderful and you did a great job on it!

I love it! LOVE LOVE LOVE! What a great quilt! That barn wood print is just perfect, you must be so pleased! Do take some close up photos, I'd love a better look at prints you used in your star.

I am so sad the piping didn't work out, and there were tears and frustration! And, of course, you are still a CLEVER GIRL! CLEVER GIRLS know when something doesn't work and put it away and move on! =)

If you REALLY want to continue with the idea of outlining your star, what about appliqueing a very narrow strip of your black fabric around it like an outline? Lots of time involved but could give the same effect as piping.

It's beautiful! I finally finished my top, too. I didn't even attempt anything unusual like piping. I'm just glad to have it done! Now to get it quilted . . .
