And yes, the kids are standing in the back of the truck in order to hold it up high enough. :)
This quilt was on the cover of Quilters Newsletter's Best Christmas Quilts 2013 and I started pulling scraps as soon as I saw it.
I hadn't made a Christmas quilt yet, but I was determined to have one on the bed this year. I pieced a little here and there
in between other projects and appliqued all the holly leaves one rainy weekend:
The original quilt is 77" x 86", but I added a few more blocks and made it 86" x 104". I chose to add a scrappy green binding and happily stitched away for a week in the evenings. I found the backing on sale and knew it was going to be perfect:
I finished it this fall when the temperature was 100°, but it's been in regular rotation since the blizzard hit the day after Christmas. I will fold it away today in the armoire where it will patiently wait for the first sign of Christmas... which seems far, far away, but we all know better!

I am a new follower, but have to say the quilt is beautiful, and I love the kitty on the quilt, too. All cats love quilts, especially those in progress. :o) Please thank your son for his service! And prayers for his continued safety. Congrats to your daughter for her pursuit of veterinary medicine. I have one daughter who is a vet tech, the other is a medical assistant. ReplyDeleteMy Christmas quilts are just flimsies and every year I tell myself I will have them quilted by Christmas, but it doesn't happen.
Your Christmas quilt is beautiful. Love the added touch of the holly leaves appliqued on it. Also, your kitty is just too cute sleeping atop of the work in progress. I think they are all alike when it comes to quilts. My two used to be the same. Sure do miss them when I put a quilt down on the floor to measure it or addition a fabric or border. Good memories.

ReplyDeleteWell you've got me drooling again! I've always wanted a Christmas quilt and never got around to making it, probably won't now since we do so little decorating for any holiday. But it sure is tempting now that I see how you machine appliqued those cute leaves. After mailing off 9 quilts to all the kid this past December I said I was going to take a break from quilts and make some totes, purses, clothes etc. Well would you believe a quilt top keeps appearing on the dining room table waiting for backing? The flimsy wedges glare at me every time I pass by. Our local quilt shop had several bolts of old stuff priced at $3.00 a yard! Could NOT pass that up so looks like I'll have more quilts to mail next December! I'm thinking I'll just dig out that Quilters Newsletter and pull some reds and greens from my stash and.....Oh well, maybe a Christmas quilt will appear after all?
