An Empty Box!

I sewed my little heart out this weekend. I was bound and determined to empty that box of 2 1/2" squares and even after I had stitched the top I shared earlier, that measures 72" x 84", I was left with this:

So I went on a 9-patch binge, a marathon of chain stitching and in between cooking and laundry and ranch duties, I stitched. I thought I'd never finish making those 2-patches:

and at 4 on Sunday afternoon, I had this:

Does the fact that I'm tickled about an empty box mean I need to get a life? :) I ended up with 124 6" 9-patch blocks. That's 1116 squares, and yes, the box is no longer empty, but I'm happy to have it filled with these instead:

They haven't been pressed yet, but that's a chore for another day. Another scrap quilt is just around the corner, but right now I am awfully tired of sewing.

  1. Your blog is the first I check for to start my quilty day. So glad you are having some time to blog MORE. I don't know how you do all you do but I've been smiling more lots of days lately. Love the squares.

  4. Wow, I can't even fathom what you just accomplished.
You HAVE a life--a very busy one at that. And you are too far from town to avoid the scrap box by heading out the door to buy more fabric on a whim. That is a good thing!
Kudos on an empty scrap box and a full 9-patch box! : )

  8. Wonderful! You inspire me! I've got too many 2 inchers in too many places as well as several containers of different size Hst'S. Staying with it shows lot's of focus and determination. Maybe it will be contagious and I can start sewing them???? What are you going to do with them? One big 2" square quilt? A border around another quilt? I just did a bit of math in my head, a king quilt would require over 500 9 patches. Who in the world would do that? ("I'm sitting on my right hand to keep from raising it!)

I love all the colors in your 9-patches., This will be a great scrap quilt in the future. I know you are feeling good about that empty box of little squares. Have a great week.

  13. Hurrah! for an empty box. Wish there were more around my place but then, I would just fill them up again so what's the point? You filled up yours with a beautiful project. It will be a lovely scrappy quilt. Enjoy the well deserved rest from the sewing machine. ;^)
