Who Needs a Vacation?

Out here at the end of the dirt road we have all the accoutrements one could want. There is no need for us to take vacations. After all, what does one do on a vacation?

Fishing?
Check.

Camping?
Check.

Skiing? Got it.

Swimming?
Check.

Heck, we even have our very own country club out here.

Actually, it's a storage tank,

but it has all the amenities of a country club without the price and we never have to fight the crowds. We've got a deck...

a lifeguard...good music...

a changing room...
cold drinks and snacks... Did I hear someone say redneck?
Thank you. I'll take that as a compliment.
But what more could you ask for? The only thing lacking is the cabana boy, but I may be able to bribe DH into playing the part if I promise him a cherry pie!

Blogger Abandonment

Is there such a thing?

Have I broken a law?

Is it a crime?

Are the blogger police on their way?

You would think so! After all, I have been reminded in no uncertain terms, on numerous occasions, that I have a duty to uphold and that I have failed miserably. In effect, I have been MIA. Gone AWOL.

My apologies. I have no excuse except for the fact that I apparently needed to take a sabbatical...a summer sabbatical.

No worries. All is well here at the end of the dirt road. I have simply been uninspired to sit in front of this computer. Instead, I have been filling my days with the pleasures of summer. Swimming and scrapping and sewing and mowing and planting and weeding and walking and visiting have completely gobbled up the entire month of July.

I have written numerous posts in my head, most often while I walked in the predawn mornings, but those words simply never made it to the keyboard.

So, in an attempt to update you, here are the top ten things that have taken place this past month. These are in no particular order, just a random summary. No trips. Nothing exciting. Just a simple list of a quiet life.

1. We have formed our own country club and spent many an afternoon lounging in all of its splendor. Post to follow.

2. I have spent a couple of fun filled days and an impromptu road trip to Lubbock with a couple of crazy women (one whom certainly took her time in informing us that she is soon to become a Granny). Guess that makes me the young chick in the bunch! Grin!

3. I have logged in approximately 140 miles while walking along the dirt roads and left 15 pounds somewhere along the way.

4. I started my first quilt and have been bitten by the quilting bug thanks to Ranch Wife.

5. We learned that my dear brother in law and his wife are in the midst of a divorce and we are heartbroken and praying for those 3 precious babies.

6. It has rained numerous times and we have been reminded that the Lord's timing is perfect and His blessings are abundant.

7. We spent the 4th with good friends and watched their neighbors shoot off over 6 figures worth of fireworks and it reminded me of how thrilled my children were with a box of sparklers when they were young. As a country we celebrate our freedom, yet we are wasteful and indulgent and spoiled and take all that we have for granted.

8. I scrapped during hot afternoons and completed 10 layouts - I am a very slow scrapper.

9. We attended a fun night of shotgun games and got rained out while we were eating and we celebrated the rain.

10. I have begun the arduous task of washing down walls and sanding paneling in preparation for mudding and painting. Ugh.

So, there you have it. July in a nutshell. I will do my best to get back on the blogging bandwagon, ask for your forgiveness, and if any of my readers get a hankering to wield a spackling knife please know that you will be welcomed with open arms!
