Calling on That Sense of Humor...

On Wednesday night we had another one of our never ending wind storms. I was outside finishing up in the garden and snapping a picture for Judy

when DH came around the corner and told me I had exactly 1 minute to get to the house before I was sandblasted:

These old ranch houses are not very airtight and sand swirls through every nook and cranny. Once the wind snatches up those sand grains, there is no escape. The back screen door was ripped open sometime during the night and I now have the distinct privilege of tending to this:

That part won't be too awful, but getting those shards of glass out of my weeds:

may take a tad longer.

I was up at 2:30 the next morning and stumbled into the kitchen to begin preparations for a crew of 11. This is what greeted me as I stood at the sink:

Took just a few seconds to set things straight!

And then, just to prove that I am not fully awake at 2:30 in the morning, nor at 3:30 when the following took place, I promptly swept a huge container of water right off of the counter onto the floor. Well fiddlesticks. And yes, I did actually say that.

I heard chairs scootch quickly to see if I needed help and DH asked if I was OK, but I hollered that all was well. As I dashed through the dining room to the linen closet to grab a couple of towels, I noticed amused grins on the crew, but they were trying to avoid looking at me. Matt looked up sheepishly and I saw his eyes twinkle. I flicked my wet fingertips in his face as I stepped past him and we all laughed.

That sense of humor I mentioned a few posts back...it comes in handy...even at 3:30 in the morning.

Ah, only in West Texas (or NM) as those of us in Central Texas say! Rain one day and a dirt storm the next! Oh do I remember those days!! But I do see that the wind was before the rain! So glad for ya'll!! We had 1/2" yesterday morning before church! I just sat on my porch and drank my coffee and praised the Lord!

Blessings

Your spirit is much more gracious than mine, especially at that hour of the morning. I was up today at 4 a.m., several hours earlier than normal and am clearly feeling the need for my head to be on the pillow. Dust, glass, water - they'd have sent me over the edge, lol.

bet you are glad you didn't get caught outside in that storm. What a mess to clean up - looks like things you read about from the dust bowl days of the late 20's-30's and the sand getting in the houses.

God will bless you richly for being his servant AND having a sense of humor at 3:30 in the morning. Sorry about the door and having to pick up glass shards. Be careful!!!

I'm in Western Oklahoma and we had a windstorm on Saturday night and lost a barn to the wind...so this morning we are starting the picking up process in the hay field. Ugh, wish it would have been in the pasture, because every little sliver of wood will have to be picked up because of trying to keep it out of the swathers and balers. Live on the farm!!! FYI...Use a shop vac to pick up the glass shards out of your grass/weeds...works great!

A sense of humor is a valuable asset.

May today bring an abundance of laughter and good conversation.

Gracious!! We get obnoxious winds, but we don't have the fun of the sand with it. Whew! Good to have a sense of humor, huh?? :)

You, my friend, are a REALLY tough ranch wife ! It's hard work living the "romantic ranch life" huh ? Blessings to you and your DH .

I understand that it's easier and better to have a great sense of humor than to cry, stamp your feet or hurl something across the room. Please tell me what that first picture is? The one that your wrote good morning on. On the brighter side, air leaks in those older houses means fresh air every day and no radon. I'll bet your house is better built than the last one I had in Kerrville!

I'm officially putting you on a pedestal, Karin. I hope the rest of the week goes better than this morning.

I know the dust storms must be worse than horrible but your photograph of the dust storm is fabulous!

Tee Hee - so funny - love the "good morning" in the dust! Way to keep your sense of humor - it's critical!!

Sometimes if we don't laugh we'll cry, so it's better to laugh. ;-)
