Just jotting out a quick post for my journal about last week because being in Gram-mode made it extra-special. Our boy, our dil, their dogs, and E were here from Sunday through Saturday.
It was busy and fun and I wouldn't have it any other way, but boy was I feeling my age by Saturday!
And apparently multi-tasking is not my forte because I made Chicken & Dumpling Casserole (a long time family favorite) one day and just as we finished, I realized I had forgotten to add the chicken. 🤣🤣🤣 And no-one ever said a word! I had cooked the chicken the day before and there it sat in the fridge. Sheesh! So I added it to the leftovers and we had proper Chicken & Dumpling Casserole the next day. 🤭
Our boy was a ton of help while he was here
He and DH worked on cutting and pounding pipe for a permanent fence around headquarters. E crawled up behind the bathtub to keep an eye on them one day.
She was fascinated for a good long while and asked endless 'why' questions. I love this age.
One day we had my in-laws over for dinner and my FIL was called into action as well...does my heart good to see them working together
This little 3-yr old kept Gram busy
My dil works remotely and she's taking online classes for a 2nd Master's degree as well so she was able to work while they were here. Not too shabby for an office view
E and I baked
And cooked
Washed lots of dishes
Should you ever need to know how to keep a little one busy, just add water. And Gram's floors have never been cleaner
We bought new baby chicks and stopped for donuts and colaches on our way out of town
And decorated our circle drive with all matter of artwork
She asked me to make her an angel. ie: she already is one. 😉
And then she said it was my turn and she wanted to take my picture with it. I'm so impressed. That's the best picture anyone has taken of me in years. 😁
Lots of stories
And one night she wanted to read 5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed to Pap
She changes the voices and everything and when she deepened her voice to read, "and the doctor said...no more monkeys jumping on the bed!", Pap lost it 😂
The wind absolutely howled most of the week so we didn't get to wander and explore like we had hoped, but there was no shortage of antics
I introduced her to the sewing machine
And she had her 1st lesson
It was a lovely week. The only thing missing was baby L and his mama and daddy, but hopefully we'll get to spend some time with them soon. After all...we have more memories to make!

What a wonderful week you all had together! Forgetting the chicken sounds like something I would do! When we have company, I always forget to put something on the table that I made for the meal. I remember AFTER they've gone home. I'm impressed you could get down on the driveway for your picture. I wouldn't be able to get up anymore. Hope you are having a blessed week!
That’s a cute story about forgetting to add the chicken to your chicken and noodles.☺️ What a fabulous week you and your family had! I knew there would be cooking and baking with E. She looks really tall for three years old! She is adorable! I see some simple four patch sewing in her future.
Nothing does a mama heart better than spending time with her kids and grandkids! Our daughter and her husband lost their home in a fire six months ago and they are stilll living with us with their 6,4 and 3 years olds. It's exhausting!!!!! There is light at the end of the tunnel, they will be moving out mid April. The first time my daughter introduced us to her boyfriend I made chicken skroodle casserole for the dinner. Half way through I realized I did the same as you, I forgot to put the chicken in it! My son in law still laughs about the horror on my face when I realized I forgot.
Goodness you and your granddaughter look alike in a couple pictures - maybe because you are both happy natured?

Your story with the chicken brought back a memory from many years ago - we had so many vegetables,Yorkshire puddings etc on our plates it wasn't until I went to wipe down the oven that I discovered the joint of meat in there......not one of us missed it. Love your pics and your family tales, thanks for sharing. Elaine in UK
The picture of you that your granddaughter took of you says it all. Pure joy!!!
