Pink is Perfect Quilt

 This is a pretty special quilt because little miss E was a very important part of making it.

I don't know if she'll grow up to be a quilter, but she'll be able to say that she made her 1st quilt at 4 years old. 

She had requested a pink quilt. I asked her if she was sure she wanted a pink one, she replied, "Yes, please, because pink is perfect!" - thus the quilt name. 😉  I let her go through my bin of pink fabrics and select which ones she wanted to include and we ended up with "all the pinks!" 

We looked at a few patterns and she chose this one...Plan C

I made all the flying geese ahead of time in order to simplify our day when she came back

We also chose to make it a little bigger since the original was just 32 x 32. I showed her how to lay everything out and let the designer choose where each fabric went. During our time together she piped up, " It's like a puzzle, Gram!" 

It is indeed, sweet girl.

I let her sit on my lap and showed her how to feed the fabric through the machine while I worked the foot pedal.

She chose a pink Minky (the only choice according to her. 😆) for the backing

Jackie and Sandy used this fun design called Timeless Hearts for the quilting

And this pink print was selected for the binding

Once I got it bound, and created a label that has both of our names on it, it was wrapped and will soon be gifted to the newest little quilter in the family. It finishes at 45"x45". Not a great shot of the quilt, but I couldn't bring myself to delete the mountains. 😉

She's already asking about making the next one so there's hope...

At least until Pap came in and asked if she wanted to help him feed horses. 😂

Spring Fling Quilt

 The seeds for this quilt started in July of last year when I tackled my scrap bin and cut everything down for numerous projects.

This quilt is called Logs and Bricks and is from this book that I bought in 2022.

These bright, happy fabrics were such fun to work with

I renamed it Spring Fling when I found this fabric at a local quilt shop

I even went back for the rest of it when I saw how great it worked with my scraps.

I liked being able to incorporate my low volume prints along with these bright fabrics from my scrap bin in this design 

It's amazing what was hiding in those scraps so this is your nudge to start digging. 😉

At 60" x 80" it ought to be perfect for cat-naps in the hammock

...which is my cue to order one. 😉

I didn't think this was my usual color story, but everything came from my scraps and low volume stash so I must be mistaken. I love how it all came together and I'm glad that all these little pieces found such a fun place to land.

Dusty Trails Quilt

 Back in November, I unearthed this panel from the bottom of the bin that houses my collection of western fabric while I was searching for something else. It's been hiding there for quite some time, but this time I felt inspired to finally use it

I pulled a variety of fabrics from my stash, cut the panels to 6 1/2",

and built economy blocks. 

Ì ended up ripping that top left block apart because I thought the yellow was too harsh. I replaced it with a softer yellow.

I had 30 blocks so a 5x6 layout worked well for a 60"x72" cuddle quilt.

This rustic print has been in my stash for many years and it made the perfect backing with plenty left for another quilt or two.

Sandy quilted it with a meander that had a little star along the path that suits it perfectly.

The brown binding also came from my stash.

I'm not a fan of panels, but I am tickled with the way this one turned out.

Woodland Wonders

I am often trying to come up with ideas for baby boy quilts and when I saw these fabrics, I didn't hesitate. I really like this neutral palette, and these southwestern prints are just perfect here in our corner of the world.

And it didn't take me long to cut squares for a little gingham quilt.

If you've been reading here for long, you know I love a good gingham quilt.

They're timeless and classic and come together so fast

And they're not so fancy that people are afraid to use them and when I gift a quilt, I most definitely want it to be used and loved.

I think this one fits the bill nicely.

The gray Minky backing makes it extra cuddly

This one is 49"x 59"... may it be a part of endless adventures in the years to come.

Into the Woods Quilt

 I'm always in need of masculine quilts, but they seem more challenging to plan for me. 

This particlular quilt doesn't have a home yet, but I felt called to make it when I tossed this dark brown fabric into a basket and it landed next to this.

I pulled a few coordinates and this 5-yard quilt pattern felt like a perfect combination.

The pattern is called Jitterbug, from the book Step it Up  With 5-Yard Quilts from Fabric Cafe.

I had this green in my stash and initially, I thought it was too dark, but it really matches the pops of green in my 2 main fabrics. It's been in my stash for longer than I've been making quilts and I  have a lot of it so it also ended up on the back

I really like the way the dark brown, that's been in my stash for many years as well, looks a little like paths from one area of the woods to another in search of a deer.

And I used the same brown for my binding.

I didn't fussy cut my fabric with resulted in some partial deer peeking out from the side of some of the blocks, but it looks more realistic since you have to hunt for them. 

This finishes at 60" x 72" and I love the way it turned out.

We have deer wander through here almost daily, but this morning, elk stopped in for a visit.
