Bread Dough and Soap Suds

If you've been reading here for any length of time, you can probably guess by that title that we're gearing up for our fall cow works. Between mowing and making preparations, it's been a busy week. I've been pouring over recipes and making my grocery list and menu for a couple of days:

We had a horse sale at the sale barn on Saturday and I had planned on getting groceries after work, but I was just too pooped. It was after 6 when I left work and I knew that would put me home after 9, not to mention getting over $300 worth of groceries put up. However, that meant an early morning trip into town on Sunday morning:

I would have been in town earlier, but DH was worried about me being in town in the pre-dawn hours by myself. Thankfully, by the time I got to the market, I just about had the entire place to myself:

I never have understood the need for a grocery store to stay open 24 hours, but I laughed when I ran into a good friend there who works the night shift in a sleep clinic and had just gotten off of work. She has always been a night owl and often goes to bed as I am getting up.

My fridge is filled to overflowing for the week ahead:

As is the bunkhouse fridge:

That is what $7500 of medicine looks like. And I thought groceries were expensive!
I'm headed over to scrub down the bunkhouse and then make it an early night, as 4 a.m. will be here before I know it. If anyone needs me this week, you'll find me elbow deep in bread dough and soap suds:

I enjoy early morning grocery shopping and having the store to myself. Whew that is a lot of medicine

The price of the medicine is shocking.
I guess I am going to have to stop carrying on about cooking at home when I see all you are going to have to do..for many. I'm just cooking for two and hate it. You are a hard worker and I guess I am a slacker. Doing nothing but trying to do it well. Hope you get to quilt some if you have any energy left.

I enjoy going to the grocery early, but I usually don't get there THAT early. Glad you are ready and raring to go for your Fall work. Don't forget to share some recipes with us :)

May this week's activities go well - no hitches or glitches.

Anonymous...I'm not any busier than anyone else...including you, I'll bet. Some folks just don't enjoy cooking and that's ok. :) Out here, if I don't cook, we don't eat. LOL. I couldn't cook a lick when we were married so DH took his chances. :)

I know the feeling on the cost of vaccines but they are a must to keep the calves in good health. I relate it the shots we gave our kids growing up baby shots, before school shots and now the kids get shots at age 12 or 13. I think the guys are going to combine some beans before weaning.

I hope it's a good week and smooth sailing (or herding or roping or whatever the appropriate metaphor here would be)!! :)

I'll be thinking about you cowgirl friend!! I always peruse your grocery list and menu for new ideas. Do you need me to send you some dishpan hands healing lotion?? Know that someone is thinking of you as they quilt!!!!

I dont envy you having to get up so early and work so hard. Just be careful and don't get the bread dough mixed up with scrubbing bubbles. Lol

Praying your energy lasts and you are able to regroup quickly. Holidays are around the corner you know. And that 4 letter word. Oh that's right there are several of them. let's not go there yet.
