Here a Stitch, There a Stitch

Seems that lately, I've been adding a lot of quilts to the "to be made" list and not spending any time sewing. I finally spent some time with my sewing machine the last few days though.

I dug into my stash for borders for the Stars and Bars QOV and stitched those on as well as made a backing and binding for it:

I also pieced my Color Box top. Tell me: how is it possible to begin with a box of 2 1/2" scraps:

Piece a top that is 72 x 84:

And still have this left:

I think I am going to simply piece all of these into 9-patches and find another pattern for them. I am determined to empty this box! I'm no longer going to stash 2 1/2" squares. I'll just keep strips because I think they'll give me more options in the long run.

Next up was the Valentine table runner and I quilted it, just using organic straight line stitching:

I made the binding and am stitching it on in the evenings as time allows.

Still, progress has been made. Makes me feel less guilty about adding new things to my list if I can cross a few off. :)

Today, I'm meeting my partner in crime in town and we're taking a road trip to another town to check out a new quilt shop that opened up 2 weeks ago. Stay tuned for my investigative report. :)

What a cute Valentine quilt. I store strips, it does give you more options.

Love all three of your projects! I thought at this time in my life I'd have so much more time for me, but now have three little grandsons I babysit several days a week, as well as an elderly mom to "do" for, and two sickly in-laws. Doesn't leave much me time, so I'm trying to be better at squeezing in ten minutes here and there. Right now I'm trying to finish up a quilt I started 7 years ago, my very first quilt, which was a QAL. I've made several quilts since then, but that one was always on the backburner. It's completely finished except for some embroidery I'm doing, so hoping I can display it soon!

Nice job on the scrap quilt. I don't cut 2.5" squares anymore unless the strip is too small for anything else. The strips are definitely easier and faster to use.

We have to grab what minutes we can find, don't we?
Your question about the box of squares is one of the mysteries of quilting. : )
Good progress--and the little Valentine runner is sweet.

Had to laugh at the never ending scrap bin--feeling that way myself. Did you see the Quiltville post today? Bonnie showed her Chunky Churndash and that pattern uses a lot of 2.5" squares. AND 1.5" strips which I have cut but don't seem to use much!

I've decided that scraps breed in the dark, and they also multiply if you let air touch them by removing the lid of the bin! I'm looking forward to your "investigative report" -- haha! Have fun!

Your quilts are so wonderful. I like that simple one at the top. I don't save scraps unless they are at least 5 inches. I have way too much, 10 small, Home Depot boxes. I look forward to your outing and may I copy that pattern? I can use jelly rolls. Have a nice week end.

Maybe you have a miraculous container that is forever full? lol. The top looks very nice. You did excellent work. Also love those little hearts. ;^)

Check out the Country Threads Chicken Scratch blog. She just started a super cute quilt that will use up tons more of your 2.5 squares.

Have fun on your road trip!

LOL Oh I feel ya! I swear those scraps multiply every time you take your eyes off them!
FANTASTIC quilts!!

Love what you're doing with scraps. If yours quit multiplying, I have a TON you can borrow from. It's like a sourdough starter - once it begins there is no end to the increase. I manage to make an average of 50 quilts a year so you know my scraps are gargantuan. Is the stars and bars an available pattern?

Ofter times I think I spend more time making lists of things I want to make than I spend sewing. You have some great beginnings
