I know. I know. No such thing if you're a quilter, but with this eminent move, my perspective is shifting. You can organize and live with your things and be perfectly happy, but when you move, suddenly it all becomes too much and I am approaching the age of 'less'.
I currently have 5 quilt ladders (made by my FIL). This one has been in our dining room
Our girl has two others and one of these here, will go home with our boy next time they visit. Then there is the armoire - time to start doling them out
Add to that the quilts on the beds, on the back of the couch and loveseat, and the napping quilt. And no, I haven't counted them, but I wasn't sure how to pack them. I thought boxes would be heavy and cumbersome so I looked for duffels and found these HERE (no affiliate link - just sharing something I like)
I looked at a lot of them and I like these because the strap runs along the bottom, providing more support and strength. I can fit 5 or 6 big quilts in one without overloading it.
After filling all 8, I bought another set. 😂 I have about 8 bolts of fabric and these fit perfectly.
I won't need all 8 so I'll let DH use a few for his hunting clothes. Once we're moved, I'll store them flat in a bin, but they worked so well that I thought I'd share my moving tip with ya'll.
Besides quilts, there are books. SO MANY BOOKS! 😂

Interesting solution to your quilt moving "problem" - I wonder if the bags would protect against mice? Not that YOU have mice, but I sometimes find indicators in my loft. Hmmmm.

Those look like great bags for packing and they store flat too! Blessings!
Using the moving bags is a great plan. I did the same when we were cleaning out my MIL house. They were easy to pack and we had no problem stacking them into my vehicle (2021 GMC Acadia), plus storing them here in a closet was a breeze. I also bought some clear ones for fabric that was donated to our quilting group.
Once the bags were empty, I reused them for storing quilts to be donated to Hospice and other organizations.
Glad you are finding easy and convenient ways to pac for moving.

I used these bags the last time I gave a quilt talk, and they were perfect for that. I second everything you said about them. Plus, they're quite affordable!

and that you found some nice bags for packing your quilts for the move--because of some problems here in this apartment I had to do some looking into some bags for my quilts that I had in stacks on a shelf unit--and found some a bit like yours--only mine have a window of plastic in the middle of the front so I can see what quilts are in each one--they are now back on the shelves for display--but in the special bags--I am planning a move in about a year--so will also be ready for that when the time comes!! Have fun sorting and doing the move--

I recently moved (several times actually) and I am here to say that moving all the quilts and fabric was a BIG task! Not to mention moving made it glaringly obvious how many sewing machines and tubs of fabric I have!
Will be praying for you on this transition. Looking forward to seeing your new home. How far away are you moving?
moving indeed is a serious reality check...my constant habit now is decluttering, donate, pass along and then trash...it doesn't often look like 'that much' but packing brings it all home...
I think of your quilts as milestones, of sorts. They mark your quilting journey, but also the memories and prayers embedded in each.
Shew - Moving! what a lot of work! I use those duffles too - they have my fabric in them and I love how sturdy they are. hope things are moving along well !
