The Quilt Ladder Dilema

I'm not a collector of things, well, unless you count my fabric stash and we do have bookshelves stuffed with books. However, I have become obsessed with these:

Quilt ladders. Everytime I see one, it just warms my heart. I don't know what it is. There is just something inviting and cozy about a ladder drapped with quilts standing against a wall. So, I have been stalking pictures:

looking for the ladder that I wanted. I found these when I googled images for quilt ladders.

My FIL has some free time on his hands and at 74, he is still vibrant and active and likes to stay busy. He is not an armchair grandpa. He can, and does, work circles around the men who help us who are half his age...and younger. So when I mentioned that I wanted a quilt ladder, he told me to choose what I wanted and he would make it. Easy enough, right? Wrong! Do I want this one:

Or this one:

Or this one:

 I can't decide!

 I love them all!

Sure hope you like making quilt ladders Grandpa. because I could keep you busy for a very long time!

You know, I do believe there might be a space or two in our RV that I could actually hang a quilt ladder. Great idea! Only now *I* have to figure out which one... LOL! :)

I have an old barn ladder I bought at an auction that I hang quilts on...LOVE IT!

It is a hard decision...maybe you should pick 2????? ;)

I didn't even know about quilt ladders. Thanks for blogging about them. NOW I know how I'll display my quilts. Yes!

I love how quilt ladders look too. At the SD State Quilt show there was an older man there selling them. I didn't buy one because I couldn't choose what I wanted. I need to think about where I want to put it. You are blessed to have a FIL who can make one or two. :)

How wonderful he's going to make one for you! I love them, too, but don't think they'd be a good choice in my house because of the cats. I do love to look at them, though. Are you closer to a decision yet?

Oh, they're all so cute! Lucky for you - you have a sweet FIL to make them for you :)!

Karin, they are all so beautiful... aren't the quilts on them incredible.. Don't think I would be able to have one with the cats and the dust, but I sure do admire them..

Fun! I like the first ones you posted but that chunky log one is pretty cool too. I guess it depends on where it's going.

I remember my friend Peri from OK Peri blog- there is a link on my blog- having a beautiful ladder built too. It would be a couple of years ago now but if you are interested check her out.
The ladders are beautiful and I am not sure which one I would pick- Do you have lots of space for more than one? How many quilts do you want to show off? I am sure that you will find the perfect solution.
How is the empty nest feeling these days?
We are doing okay- feeling a little lonely for our boy and are pretty sure that he won't get here for Christmas. The cost is just too prohibitive for the time he has.
Warmest regards,
Anna

I´ve seen quilt ladders at pictures and I liked them alot. But I´ve never thought about in how many different styles and looks they are producing them. Hard decision......I like the chunky one.... but I wont fit with my other furniture.... hm not easy. Great to hear that your FIL is still in such a good shape.

I think you should have one in every single room of your house! That might keep your FIL busy and you can have every single style of ladder too!

Have him make a couple of different ones for you, then you have more room to hang lots of quilts!

Karin, I have seen where the quilt ladder is mounted sideways on the wall and the quilts hang between the rungs. I like that look too.

I love quilt ladders too! I'm actively looking for an old ladder now. If I can't find an old ladder, I'm going to make a new ladder and beat it until it looks old, and stain/paint/antique it. :-)

Girl, I would let him pick and add his own special touch! How special is that! It will look great with all your beautiful quilts on them!
