It's Giveaway Day!

This Giveaway is now closed

It's time again for Sew Mama Sew's biannual giveaway party. I love participating because it's a great way to meet new bloggers and it's really just so much fun giving things away and when you win, you get to look forward to receiving a treat in the mail and who doesn't like that?

There's lots of places to visit and there will be all sorts of wonderful treasures to win so be sure and check out all the participants.

If this is your first time visiting here, welcome! If you've been here before, welcome back!

Here's what I have for y'all today. I've divided it up into 4 lots so you have 4 chances to win:

Lot #1  The ABC's of Words on Quilts by Elizabeth Scott
A Touch of Rosie Quilts (somehow, I ended up with 2 copies of this)
Turning Twenty Just Got Better by Tricia Cribbs

Lot #2  Fresh Fabric Treats from the Moda Bakeshop Designers
Easy Quilt Projects (Favorites from the Editors of American Patchwork and Quilting
Turning Twenty Feelin' Groovy (Book 4)

Lot #3  3 - 1/2 yd cuts of Amy Butler Fabric.

Lot #4  3 1/2 yd cuts: 1 Desert Daydreams by Anthropology
2 Good Fortune by Kate Spain

So starting today you can put your name in the hat by leaving me a comment. Just tell me if you like to bind quilts. I like everything about making a quilt, but I think I like hand stitching the binding down to the back the most.

I'll let the random number generator choose 4 names and the first name gets first choice and so on. This giveaway will be open until Friday, May 10th, 5 p.m. PST. I will ship internationally so everyone can chime in! Thanks so much for stopping by. Friends and family say I always feed everyone who wanders down the dirt road so I feel as if I ought to at least be handing out cookies or something in honor of y'all. Fajitas are on the menu for tonight just in case you REALLY stop in. :)

I've never tried it! I've only made one quilt & my grandma bound it for me. But in general I like sewing by hand!

Joyce Carter said...

Thank you for a very generous giveaway. I do like to bind my quilts. I sew it down on the front by machine and the back I sew by hand. It is very enjoyable and relaxing.

I love everything about making a quilt thanks

Ramona said...

I like to bind as you know this project is almost done. I like to sew the front by machine and hand bind the back while relaxing.

Quilt Genius said...

I love hand stitiching the binding on a quilt! I did, however, find a great way to machine bind when I'm in a hurry. LOL

Beth said...

I hate to sew on bindings. I wish we lived close-by, so I could trade you chores--you could bind my quilts and I'd do most anything for the luxury of avoiding that.

Little Ella Lu said...

I've only recently started my first quilt and it is a cathedral quilt so it won't need binding.

Tanya said...

I usually prepare the binding and then hand off the actual job of sewing it on to my husband. Thanks for chance to win. I like #3 most.

Angelia Lanouette said...

I enjoy binding quilts. I machine sewing the binding on front and hand stitch the back. I have found that I really enjoy hand sewing. Thank you! anglanouette(at)gmail(dot)com

I have to admit I hate binding quilts. There, I've said it!

I Love to hand sew my quilt bindings. The best part of all. it means I am finshed. Time to show it off and celebrate.

Jan Baker said...

I do enjoy binding the quilt. It is always nice to have it complete. My sister laughs at me because I like o do it by hand. I like option 2 best but the all look pretty wonderful.

Kathy H said...

I like to do the binding. It looks so nice when the quilt is finished. Sometimes I hand bind and sometimes I machine sew the binding on. I use that for the quilts that will be washed a lot.

Katie said...

I don't mind binding my quilt - I just hate quilting it!

Tawny said...

Binding is definitely not my fave. I always think it takes too much time when really piecing and quilting take just as much time. But I guess it just seems like a lot of time because it's a boring task. :)

Mom C said...

I do like to bind. Mostly I machine bind but now and again, I like to sit down and spend some quiet time just hand binding. I hand bind all my DIL's quilts that are for publication. I think it's funny but she absolutely doesn't do the hand work. Thanks.

Georgia said...

I've never made a quilt before, but I'm hoping to make one before baby #2 comes in July! I probably won't have the patience to bind it by hand. :)

I dont mind binding. I mostly sew it to the front and hand stitch the back. Its good busy work to do while watching tv. Ive also sewn it all down but it requires either lots of pinning or steam a seam to have the stitches line up. Thanks!

Fran said...

It depends on the quilt as to whether I hand sew or machine sew the binding. For very large quilts I prefer to machine bind as it's too much of an ordeal to hand sew as I'm really slow. Thanks for the chance to win.

Jeanne in Ohio said...

I enjoy binding a quilt, mainly because that means it's done! I now sew all my bindings by machine.

I don't mind binding quilts--it's a satisfaction of completing a quilt that I like when I am binding.

Mmm, fajitas, I'll be right over!! :) I'd love to win any of the fabrics in the last two listings. When I "bind" something, it is usually using bias binding and doing an armhole or neckline. Occassionally a cuff of a sleeve, depending on the style. I tend to sew more clothes than quilts.

Sarah said...

I love the hand sewing. I started off in embroidery and having a needle in hand has always been what relaxes me most

Lia*s Handmades said...

I would say that binding is my least favourite thing about quilting. It takes ages and that is what's putting me off the big ones lol!
I've tried machine binding with bias tape, but it just doesn't look as nice as doing it by hand, but still...I dread binding something... LOL

Sandra said...

While it is not my favorite thing to do I don't really mind it. I just spread it out on my lap and start sewing while watching tv.

I am new to quilting, but the only binding that I have done for mug rugs and clothes has been done by machine.

Debora K said...

My hands hurt too much to bind with hand sewing, so if I do bind I have to use the machine.

Anne said...

Binding is not my favorite part (i think I tend to procrastinate finishing projects in general). I do prefer hand stitching the binding to machine stitching.

Yes, handstitching the binding is pretty but binding a quilt is one of the things I really don't like to do. I prefer to sew few quilt tops than bind one :) I'm very impatient and it takes too much time :) Thanks for a chance to win

Marci Girl said...

I love hand sewing my bindings, it is the perfect end to a quilt and I am always happy to do it because I know the quilt will be done!

junacreationsuk.blogspot.co.uk said...

I alway sbind my quilts, ever since I knew how, but I generally machine bind now, unless it's a small lap quilt. I find it difficult to sit on the sofa and sew and the cats think that's their time and not sewings time.. and they're right :o)

Thanks for the opportunity to win.

I'm not a huge fan of binding, but I absolutely REFUSE to sew them down with a machine, so off to the couch I go with my clips, needles and thread. I just love the look they give, no seams, just lovely hand sewn goodness on the back!

Anya said...

I love sewing bindings by hand. It's one of my favorite parts of making a quilt because I can see the end of the tunnel. Thanks so much for the chance!

Jacqueline said...

I hand finish all my quilts. it's not the most fun part, but it gives me a chance to overthink the whole making proces of specificly of the person I'm making the quilt for. I gives me some rest in my busy life.

Lynn M said...

I do love to bind quilts. thanks for the chance!

Jacklynn Grimm said...

I hand sew all my bindings because I like my stitches hidden. My husband can't understand why I put the whole thing together on the machine why not the binding. I have never seen a good machine sewn binding.

Sasha said...

You like hand stitching bindings???? really?? that to me is the second to worst part of making a quilt, the worst is making the binding in the first place and burning my fingers whilst ironing, every, single time!!!!
Quilting I love, piecing i love, choosing and cutting fabrics i love, but the last hurdle is the worst part. LOL!

danielle said...

I bind my quilts because I have to, not because I like it.

JustPam said...

I used to hate to bind quilts-because I did it by hand. I dislike hand sewing. Now that my machine binding looks pretty good, I don't mind binding at all.

Every time my husband watches me sew binding down, he asks why I don't do it on the sewing machine. I tell him each time that I love doing it by hand and it is relaxing. I would rather hand sew binding that doing the quilting part.

I am a beginner and I have only bound two quilts. I did one entirely by machine. The other one I stitched on top and hand sewed it on the back. I don't mind doing the binding.

Oh I love fajitas! I wish I could come over for dinner! I like the pleasure of hand sewing the binding. It gives me one more opportunity to enjoy the quilt. But since most of my quilts are gifts or charity quilts with fundraiser dates, and since I'm the queen of the last minute, I often machine sew my bindings.

Jodi said...

I don't mind hand stitching binding. I haven't made my first quilt yet but I did a small wall hanging for my mum for Christmas and bound it and I did some of the hand stitching for the binding of a friends art quilt.

Sarah said...

Yes I like binding quilts, but these days with little kids and part time work I do find I resort to machine binding coz it's just quicker. Thanks for the very generous giveaway. We had burritos last night. Must be a TexMex kinda week for meals!
