Floral Boho Quilt

I want to begin with a quick note to all of you non-reply bloggers. I appreciate everyone who takes the time to read and comment on my posts so very much, and I will comment back, but if you do not hear back from me, you are a non-reply blogger and I have no way of replying to you. I figure some of y'all may want it that way, but if you ask me a question, I also figure you may like an answer. :) So if you'll leave me an email address or send me one, I'll be able to do that.

And I completely forgot to draw for the book giveaway on Friday! Sorry bout that! Mr. Random Number Generator drew Shelly as the winning comment - congratulations Shelly - I'll get your package out to you today!

And yes, I am sewing again...a little! I am making a dent in the UFO pile. :) This is number 5 for the year. That sounds like a lot, but it's really not since they mostly just needed finishing and it's already the middle of August. Just one needed piecing and quilting and another needed borders  then there's been a whole lot of binding making and stitching going on. But a finish is a finish and I love crossing them off of my list and making room for new projects. :)

Last year I saw this pattern

in this magazine

and got a hankering to make a floral quilt. Its a design by Amy Smart - she's got such a fun style and I love her patterns.  I'm not a floral kind of gal, but for some reason these pretty prints drew me in so maybe I am:

and this pattern shows them off so well.

This quilt works up fast too. I used 25 different fabrics and made 25 blocks and truth be told, I finished this quilt about 3 months ago, but its taken me this long to take pictures of it:

It has become a favorite napping quilt so I brought it with me to Mom's. I want to make a quilt for my aunt in Germany and I wanted to see if Mom thought these fabrics might work:

I backed it with this Moda Dot. I ordered it last year hoping the green was going to be the perfect shade and it was:

And I finished it with a scrappy binding.

I love every one of these prints and really like how the shabby, vintage looking florals worked in this modern setting.

I'm hoping to make a simple patchwork quilt entirely of florals at some point. I just want a vintage-y, wild  looking hodge podge of florals. My favorite flowers are wild flowers and I love a whole mess of them in one place.

I'm thinking this may be my way of getting that English Cottage garden I adore after all...minus any neighbors. :)

Gosh. That makes me sound terribly unsociable. I'm not, but I am however, a social hermit. Talking to our daughter one day, I used that phrase and she laughed, "So THAT'S what I am!". Its a case of the apple and the tree.

I have a box of florals and this may be my achilles heel and fabric fast downfall as I would love to add some more variety for more of a wildflower look.

Focus. Must stay focused on using what I have.

However, this past weekend we spent 2 nights at the ranch rodeo and on the heels of my trip to Texas, this dirt road gal is bout done being social; so right now I am going to focus on taking one of those naps with this sweet quilt:

A beautiful quilt Karin. I love all the florals. I, too, am a wild flower girl. I don't get near enough flowers outside, so get them in my fabric instead :) lol

A fantastic quilt. I've always loved prints that remind me of English flower gardens. That pattern allows them to shine.

At times I'm a social hermit, too. I guess it's because I grew up on a farm that didn't have many close neighbors. I loved the solitude, and even though I now live in town, I still create solitude for myself from time to time.

What a beautiful quilt -- it has a soothing feeling about it! And isn't is wonderful that we can work in different styles and palettes. I've got a quilt made with a lot of those same florals. Very different from my usual brights but I love it too. Ah... a social hermit... I like that term. Its what I want to be somedays but the world keeps intruding. Oh well... off to hide out in my studio for a bit. Hugs!

Another pretty quilt! I went to a ranch rodeo also-texas Ranch Roundup.Went both nights and made the trade show-only bought a cake plate and cover. There is a lady there every year and she buys old aluminum cake covers at garage sales and paints them.Mine is red with some paisley.Love it. So much blingy junky jewelry thereYUCK! A friend did get her hubby to buy her a new saddle though! Didnt even watch the ranch horse show.A rancher friend and I were talking about it and he didnt go either. It has gotten so show horsey.Slide plates on a ranch horse?Might slide off into a creek bed!LOL! we were also talking about how to pronounce romal reins.Neither 1 of us were sure, sure dont see them on the ranches round here afraid that the brush and briars would be kinda rough on them! What does your hubby think about the ranch horse shows? I would say he is a dang good horseman-looks like he sets a horse good and from thing you have written about him.Well have a blessed day,I guess you are headed to the sale barn.

You done good! I have a hard time working with florals, so I could never get a quilt like that to come out so pretty. And I'm a social hermit, too. I refer to myself as a recluse a lot of the time. And am I really the book winner? Or was there more than one Shelly?

This quilt is very, very, pretty! I think it's much prettier than the pattern shown and had I looked at the pattern first I don't think I would buy it. You have really improved it. Your fabrics are wonderful! Great job!!

Oh my goodness!! It's just beautiful! I don't tend toward florals, but I sure like that! It' gives your garden a little competition in the natural beauty category!

Hi Karin, It sounds like you have been very busy. There is no place like home!
I love all of your beautiful quilts. I have a large fabric stash also and it takes me a long time to finish a quilt but I enjoy the process. My last quilt was made with Moda's Rawhide fabric and I love that collection. Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful quilt, just right for an old fashion girl! Are those your flowers in your yard? Goodness, I could sit and look at them for hours. Does the spool pin sit right on top of your Janome? Looks like it to me. Mine is in the back.

Karin, what a pretty quilt. Your aunt will love it for its beauty, but also because it is a gift from you. It is such a good feeling to finish projects and then to gift them to those we care about. :)
