A Trip to Texas

Last Tuesday I packed up and headed down to see my mom. The weather was sketchy in places,

but the good Lord got me there safely. Its over 500 miles one way and takes up much of the day, but I like to take the back roads and soak up the changing scenery. I often listen to a book and "Morning's on Horseback", a biography about Theodore Roosevelt, accompanied me along the way.

I was away for 8 days and I don't think the sun ever peeked out. It was wet and drizzly, but never amounted to much of anything. No worries. I was huddled in the office shuffling accounting and corporation and personal taxes for much of that time.

We had a good visit and I extended my stay just a bit so that we could visit about more than taxes. My mom has a bad leg, but it doesn't slow her down much. In fact, she wears me out, but there were odds and ends that I was happy to tend to for her like cleaning out her green house:

The only shopping I did was at the little fabric shop in Brady. I was in search of a backing for a Christmas quilt and suffice it to say I did not leave empty handed. I feel obligated to post about it, but you may think I've lost my mind...if you don't already.

Our girl came home on Wednesday evening, after her last class for the week and spent some quality time with her Daddy. She makes a hand whether it be in the kitchen or in the pasture and the two of them met up with some friends on Saturday night for a round of UFC fights.

She and I both breath easier when we're at the end of the dirt road:

You went to my favorite town in Texas! How I wish my hubby would let us move there. I will go back this summer, I hope. My daughter is moving to Dallas but hope I can go there again.

I know that your Mother appreciated the time you spent with her and all the work that you did for her.

My lips are sealed about the result of your shopping trip. ;o)

Nothing like life at the end of the dirt road. . .

That's a long trip. Seems like staying a week or so would make it more worth the drive. (I usually like to get there but don't always enjoy the getting.)

I'm sure your mom enjoyed your visit and appreciated all your help. Good that your girl got home for a few days. Having our children home for a visit is the best!

Did you enjoy Mornings on Horseback?

Wow -- that greenhouse is spectacular! Glad you got to spend some good time with your mom -- a girl (and moms, too) needs that every once in a while!! :)

You are one busy gal! Glad you can still help your mom. Lovely greenhouse! I missed your post while you were away.

This has been the cloudiest, darkest and wettest winter we've has since my parents, husband and I moved to Texas! My brother *says* this is "normal", but I wouldn't know as we allegedly haven't seen "normal weather" since we moved here over 6 years ago. We sure do thank the Lord for the rain, but I also thank Him for getting me through all that gloom! :-) Things are really popping out now with more sun and warmth!

I'm glad you made your trip safely. There surely is no place like home - especially when it's in the country. ;-)
