Raw Edge Circle Quilt

I am so excited to show ya'll this quilt today!

This is my oldest UFO and looking back, I think I started it in 2010 when I was a newly minted quilter. I used this tutorial from Alison over at Cluck, Cluck, Sew

Raw Edge Circle Quilt Tutorial

This quilt is the reason I have a stash of 30's. I fell in love with them back then and I am still smitten with them today.

I think I finished piecing this quilt in 2012, but Jackie didn't do any custom quilting back then and I had no idea where to have it quilted until I became acquainted with Shelly over at Prairie Moon Quilts. She had quilted my Beneath These Western Skies Quilt for me and did a beautiful job:

She's married to a cowboy too and has a cute goat that I want to adopt. I think he and Skeet would be great friends. :)  So I sent her my Raw Edge Circle Quilt. If you're not familiar with Shelly, you ought to take a gander at her blog, Prairie  Moon Quilts. The lady has mad quilting skills and she quilts for quilting royalty like  Victoria Findlay Wolfe for whom she quilted a 30' quilt and it's amazing. See it HERE . So I am beyond honored that she quilted my simple little quilt.

And a few weeks ago I received it back and I am over the moon with it! I wanted something sweet and simple and Shelly quilted these cute daisy flowers in each  circle and a spray of pretty leaves in the spaces between. The top is really busy but it's easy to see her beautiful design on the back. I increased the contrast so you could see her design better. The blue is not that dark.

After much indecision, I chose a Riley Blake purple gingham for the binding and I'm just tickled with it:

So many fun prints

And as you can see, this is another quilt I dragged to my in-laws with the notion to take advantage of  quilt holders and their amazing deck. The lighting was pretty stark, but New Mexico is known for it's brilliant blue sky and that's a good thing unless you're trying to get a picture of a quilt.

After all these years, I am thrilled to have it finished and eager to begin using it. At 86" x 98", it's perfect for one of the beds.

Shelly, I can't thank you enough! It's just perfect and you are perfectly wonderful!

I LOVE this quilt! Every fabric in it is absolutely wonderful! And you've really made me want to make one, altho I doubt it'll come out as pretty as yours -- your fabrics and that palette would be hard to beat! Thanks so much for letting me quilt it for you!

Your quilt is beautiful and the quilting is perfect for it. I have recently met Shelly and you are lucky to have her quilt for you. She is an amazing quilter and so nice too. She was a speaker at one of my guilds in August and now I hear she is coming back to our area again to speak at my other guild. I love that she lives on a MO farm with her cowboy and all the animals she has to care for. It amazes me that she has time for such fantastic quilting. What a sweetheart.

What a stunning quilt! L♥ve it! I think I'd be tempted to use some Stitch Witch on the circles. I checked out the tutorial and it looks like a fun to do quilt and it looks like it would be easy for a new quilter. Are you going to keep this one?

A treasure! I aspire to have Shelly quilt one of mine someday, too.

This is just so beautiful!!! Sometimes a quilt has to sit and age a bit and wait for the right person to quilt it... and this quilt is a perfect example. Those 30's prints just make me smile too... enjoy this one!!!

The colors are so warm and inviting, Karin. I'd like to snuggle under that quilt! This pattern often tempts me but I resist the curves because I know I'd want the stitched under instead of raw edge. Either way, this quilt is an inspiration to me.

Beautiful Quilt--easy to understand how you were omitted with the 30's fabric seeing this quilt. Finishing a quilt is always a great accomplish and even sweeter when it is an older project
