January Stitching

OK...I THINK I am going to get to do a little stitching today.

A few years back, well actually, 2012 is more than a few years back... I participated in a Christmas through the year program through Darlene's blog, A Quilting Daze . Darlene doesn't blog anymore. I hope all is well in your neck of the woods, Darlene...you are missed. Each month we were to make 1 gift for Christmas and her cheerleading meant I had a box filled with handmade gifts come December. It was the BEST and I haven't done it since. I was visiting with a friend on the phone the other day and this subject came up. She too is a maker of beautiful things and she was stitching away on Christmas Eve. In an attempt to avoid the crunch this next December, I'm going to give this another go. This month I am going to finish stitching up lined drawstring bags that I didn't finish before Christmas:

Everyone loves the simplicity these add to gift wrapping, especially the men! I know many of you are DONE with all things Christmas, but I promise that this is worth investing in if you love to give hand made gifts come December.

I am also hoping to work on Bonnie Hunter's On Ringo Lake. I'm on step 2, buy hey, it's all about the journey and I'm just going to enjoy it and not worry about rushing through it.

Then there's a new project I'm starting with my Quilt Squad girls. I only made 2 meetings last year, but I hope to step that up this year. We're going to be making blocks from Sew Emma's pattern called Blessings

using 30's prints and Kona Snow for the background. Each of us will make 12 identical blocks and we'll exchange them this summer and set them however we choose.

That ought to keep me busy and out of trouble for this month. On the book front, I'm currently listening to Cold Sassy Tree

on Audible and I'm loving it, so that's an added incentive for spending more time  behind my sewing machine. How is it I've not read this before?

Loved the book. However, do not bother reading the sequel. The author passed away during the writing and someone else finished it. I was so very, I mean very disappointed. So, enjoy this book, it was a favorite.

Good luck with the Christmas gifts. That is one of my goals for 2018 also.

For the past several years I have taken part in an ornament exchange...and have always done them right after the swap is announced. Which does not make for a fun experience! LOL.

So, this year, I am going to try to make at least one ornament a month as well as a larger gift.

Happy New Year,

Sherry

I like that idea. I always struggle with ideas of things to sew too. We spend a lot of November and December at our hunting lease, so early sewing is a great idea!

Your January goals are great, and I have no doubt, if given an opportunity to sew, that you will easily accomplish them. Have fun.

One of my all time favorite books. I have my own copy so I have read it several times. Enjoy, and I agree the sequel is not worth your time.

That is a great idea for getting ahead on your Christmas gifts. Maybe I can do that too. Thanks for the notice of the book you are listening to. I have been doing quite a lot of "listening" to audiobooks this last year, and joined a book club to continue. I love listening during the day when I am doing any of my chores or sewing. Stay warm and good luck with your goals.

Hello, Sweet Friend! I was surprised to see my name mentioned in your blog post - brought a huge smile to my face! Little do you know that while I'm no longer blogging I still pop in to read what's happening in your world and a handful of others, as well.

Big Hugs!

Was it 2012 when you participated in that Christmas throughout the year event??? I remember when you did that, but I never would have guessed it was that long ago. It looks like you have some fun quilting to look forward to this year - I’m particulary interested to see the Blessings quilt done in 30’s fabrics - I think that’s going to look just wonderful. Btw, I, too, loved Cold Sassy Tree. Loved it. I read the sequel and don’t recommend that at all!!!
Happy stitching!!!

I just love your blog. On the gift making note, a lady posted the other day that she has a gift cupboard. Every time she makes something it is added to the gift cupboard. I thought this was a great idea. I have just gone back to sewing clothes for myself and quilt as well. There were so many things I wanted to do this past year that I didn't get done,I decided that when I was cutting out something, I would then cut out some doll clothes for my grand daughters dolls at the same time if the fabrics are suitable for it. I will also be cutting out bowl cozies, tea towels, and pot holders for gifts when using cotton. I'm excited to do this and hope when Christmas comes, my gift cupboard with be full.
