Rodeo Baby Quilt Finished

I'm still not getting a whole lot of sewing done, but it feels good to be working on things again. Those 3 a.m. mornings give me some extra sewing time. I've still had the odd day of cooking for the crew and my lawn mower is getting a workout, but when Jackie called and told me she had 2 baby quits ready for me a few weeks ago, I pushed things aside and stitched the binding to the front of this quilt. It took me a week to hand stitch it to the back, but I finally finished it.

This cute pattern is by Shelly of Prairie Moon Quilts. It's a free pattern she designed for Riley Blake and I knew I had to make it as soon as I saw it even though she shared it last year and it's taken me this long to finish it.

I made this one for a baby boy with fabrics from my stash, but my coworker made one for a baby girl and I hope to make one too. Tis' the season for babies around here. Here's a link to the free tutorial

Rodeo Baby

I pieced the back and included an extra block I had

And here's a good look at the fun pattern Jackie quilted on it

This one makes up to a nice size - 48x66" that will be useful as the baby grows which we all know happens overnight. I'm actually saving this one for a little boy when he's 4 or 5.

A Stitch Here and a Stitch There

A stitch here plus a stitch there equals progress. Just odds and ends to share this week. I cooked for a crew for 3 days this week and those 2:30 am wake up calls gave me some extra time behind the sewing machine.

I really enjoyed embroidering 16 of these soon to be corn hole bags (bean bags) for a  friend's son's wedding. They are planning a variety of yard games for the reception (Doesn't that sound like a fun idea?)  and T sent me the fabric with a request for an embroidered monogram on each bag.

And I pieced the Fun Flower Baby Quilt into a top

I also made this valance for my kitchen window a while back, but I don't think I ever shared it.

I had run across the fabric while searching for something for a friend at Joann's and knew it would be perfect in my kitchen.

And I finally stitched up some matching potholders this week:

And an apron may find its way under the needle soon.

I also finished out the week by piecing this top for the Rodeo Baby baby quilt. There will be strips running across the top and the bottom that will have appliqued stars running across them as well as a star in the center, but the center blocks are pieced.

I hope to get the stars appliqued and make a plan for the Don't Fence Me In horse quilt this week.

Sneaking in a Little Time to Play with Fabric

Today I'm headed in to the sale barn. The morning started early since DH was up at 3:30. He's headed to the neighbors' to help them brand and then Tuesday through Friday it'll be our turn so that means I'll be spending the week in the kitchen. The list is long, but I'll shop for groceries after work today.

I spent much of the past 4 days mowing because I know I won't get to it this week and the grass and weeds and mustard are so high that I can't see the chickens. That's always a sign that its time to mow. I told DH that I've got about another 4 years behind that push mower in me and after that, we are going to have to spring for a riding one. This is about a 10th of what I keep mowed around here at headquarters

While I was mowing, I was planning the menu and thinking about sewing.

I'm down to ONE ufo. I've got 6 that are at the quilters and will need binding, but the lone ufo still needs a design before the pile of fabric becomes a quilt. So if there's no design, maybe technically, its not even a ufo yet.

But I've been sidetracked...by this quilt.

Shelly, over at Prairie Moon Quilts ,designs for Riley Blake and she posted a tutorial for this baby quilt over at the Riley Blake Cutting College blog. The minute I saw it, I knew I was going to make it and I sent the link to my Sale Barn Quilt Posse immediately. Now its on their list of must make quilts too.

When I finished mowing, I set about pawing through my stash and pulled some possibilities:

I knew I needed to use some of my western stash because we've got lots of little Ranch Rodeo babies slated for arrival in the near future.

So thank you for another great pattern, Shelly! Who says that selling cattle is the only thing we do at the sale barn!
