Quilts on the Horizon for 2025

This looks suspiciously similar to last year's list, but I made 12 quilts last year so  I'm starting off the year with the 12 quilts that get rolled over from that list with more for good measure. I made a pretty good dent in last year's list, but was sidetracked by our move in August and our many outside projects.

This is a list of both UFOs and quilts I hope to work on in the coming year. 

1. Winter Blues - I didn't touch this last year and I've just got 65 of these little scrappy blue blocks made so hopefully I can get back to this one and move it forward. It's been on the list since 2022. I may set this up to be my leader-ender project.

2. Follow Your Heart - Jackie has this one so I'll be binding it soon. This too has been on this list since 2022.

3. Christmas Quilt - No progress on this one in fact, I haven't even chosen a pattern, but I'm using my stash so it will be scrappy.

4. Peppermint Bark Christmas - I need a 2nd Christmas quilt and I actually do have the blocks made, but they haven't made it to top status yet. I made them back in June.

5. Love You S'more - I pieced one camping quilt top for our granddaughter last year that's ready to be dropped off with Jackie. 

6. Love You S'more II - New Project. Another camping quilt for our grandson.

7. Meet Me in Margaritaville - I scrapped my original plan and moved on to plan B, but wasn't liking that much either. So I'm waiting for inspiration to lead me in another direction, but another green-blue quilt is still on my radar

8. Pooh's Corner - Still just a pile of fabric at the moment

9. Meadow Friends - hoping to make a quilt or 2 from these fabrics for the grandchildren

10. S'mores Quilt - I didn't touch this last year and still have blocks to make

11. Farmhouse Chic Quilt - another one that I neglected last year, but I hope to dig into it soon

12. Snuggle Season - still just a fat quarter pack. I need to settle on a pattern yet.

13. Old Dirt Road - I hope to work on this one this year - it's not even cut out yet.

14. Gingham Farmhouse - ready to hand this one off to Jackie for quilting

15. Scrap Baskets - I picked this one up from Jackie last September, but still need to bind it.

16. Red & White Swap Quilt - in line to be bound

17. Peaches & Cream Gingham - Also waiting for me to stitch the binding down.

18. Animal Crackers - This one is at Jackie's - that binding pile is growing!

19. Autumn Gatherings - Flannel quilt requested by our girl. It's pieced and ready to be quilted.

20. I Spy - I made an I Spy quilt for our granddaughter's 2nd birthday. Our grandson is turning 2 this year so an I Spy quilt is definitely a priority.

Then there are a handful of quilt tops that have been hanging in the back of the closet for quite a few years. They were rediscovered when we moved. It's time to get them finished.

21. Dinosaur Baby - needs a backing

23. Farmers Market - needs a good pressing before I hand it off to be quilted. I pieced a backing and made binding for it on Wednesday.                                        

24. Sweet Snuggles flannel quilt - in line for quilting

O.K. stopping there. If I stick to this list, I won't be buying much fabric because I have everything for all the quilts with the exception of some backings, but I'm going to try hard to cobble those together from my stash. I bought very little last year. Heaven knows I can sew for years and not run out of fabric, but it would be nice to see a decrease in my stash.

5 of these are waiting for binding, 7 are completed tops and ready to be quilted, 3 are partially pieced, and the other 9 aren't even cut out yet so I ought to to be able to finish a dozen or so and hopefully make progress on others.  It's funny to think that I could go this entire year without sewing a stitch (except for bindings) and still have 12 quilts finished at the end of the year. 

It's hard to sit inside and quilt when we're spending so much time working on our property, turning it into what we've envisioned. (Presently, that's our new chicken coop / yard). Even when the weather chases us inside, I'd rather cozy up by the fire so good thing I've got a lot of quilts to bind!

Gingham Farmhouse Quilt

 A few years ago I made couple of gingham baby quilts for a friend's twin granddaughters

And soon after, I made a third that our granddaughter has claimed

And I've made another here

And when I stumbled upon this print, I thought a gray and white quilt would be fun. As much as I love this print, I will say I struggled with the strings...so many strings! It's a Michael Miller fabric and this is the first time I've had a fabric produce so many strings. Still, I loved the print enough to deal with the strings.

Sandy used a gray thread and a design called Vortex

I backed it with this print because I thought a touch of red on the back was fun and I bound it with a gray.

In hindsight, it really wasn't the best choice because the background is an off-white and the front is a true white, but it's fine.

 It was made with love and someone will love it and that's all that matters.

It finishes at 68" x 80" 

I like the simplicity of gingham quilts so I'm fairly certain this won't be the last.

This one has not found it's forever home, but the kids haven't seen it yet. 😉

Under the Needle: July

 I was in my sewing room quite a bit this month, but I wasn't always sewing. 

But this month I managed to get my Land of Enchantment top together. I had made all the blocks earlier, but it had a pieced border so I completed that this month. I've been trying to use what I have, but I didn't have anything even close for a backing and I caved when I saw this fabric online and had to have it.

I didn't get a lot of sewing done this month because I started cutting into my scraps. Tackling a 32 qt tote of scraps was a daunting task, but I stayed focused and emptied the bin! Some of it has been used, but all of it has been pressed, cut down into usable sizes, and I've made notes for how I intend to use much of it. Hopefully I can stay on top of things and not let it pile up like that again. It was a lot.

I am currently binding this Farmhouse Summer quilt in the evenings.

And I went ahead and cut the leftovers into 5" squares that I'll stitch into HSTs for a bonus quilt.

I've been making Bonnie Hunter's 4-Patch Fun blocks as leader-enders. I've just made 10, but as I was working through my scraps, I cut and clipped 50+ together so they are ready to stitch

I picked up 2 quilts from Jackie and stitched the binding to the fronts.

I dropped off 2 and finished 2 this month - Blustery Day

I feel like most of the month was spent processing my mountain of scraps, but I'm so glad to have those cut down and ready for some fun scrap quilts. I didn't have any low volume fabrics in my scraps tote, although I do have some in my 2.5" strip bin, so the stacks of low volume prints were all cut from fat quarters or yardage

There are 2 different blocks and I made one of each to see if I wanted to commit to making an entire quilt. It uses 2" strips and squares which isn't going to whittle those scraps down very quickly, but it's fun to revisit these fabrics and get them out of the tote and into these cheerful blocks.

I also cut scraps down for this quilt that uses 1.5" strips. 

Again, I made one block before I cut pieces for the entire quilt. It was a slow process, but I will stitch the rest of the blocks in an assembly line fashion and that will make them come together much faster.

I also cut a variety of strips, including 5" strips (not pictured because I already put them away).

Sewing continues, but I am stepping away from the rotary cutter for a while. Making scrappy quilts creates a huge mess, but it's all part of the process and despite the piles, it's an organized chaos and I'm looking forward to moving these projects forward.     

                       

2025 Quilt Round Up

 Wow! THAT year sure flew by! I spent the year working on projects on our mountain property with DH and sneaking in time to sew as time allowed. 

I always have multiple projects going at once. I'm always pulling fabric for one project, cutting another, piecing a third, and binding a fourth. That process works well for me and it allowed me to finish 19 quilts this year. That's a record for me, but it's only because I had a backlog of quilts that only needed binding. The * designates those quilts. 15 of the 19 quilts were on my list of quilts I wanted to finish this year and I'm tickled that I was able to make that much progress.
