Hello Winter

We've really enjoyed a beautiful Fall, but I'm always sad to see it come to an end.

I think this qualifies as the end of Fall. No doubt we'll still have some beautiful, warm, sunny days, but this pretty much signals the arrival of Winter:

The other day it was 11° when I dropped the boys off:

I was told (in jest and not by DH) to not take pictures because they didn't look like cowboys all bundled up, but this is reality. Ranching isn't always glamorous. 😄

Our main concern is the freshly weaned calves. The next day we had a 51° swing and that often means there will be calves to doctor and we had a few, but not many.

We've officially finished our Fall Cow Works:

Which means I've been released from the kitchen, but I've been reassigned. DH and I - and Skeet -

spent Saturday fixing a leak:

or 2

 or 3

or 4

Thankfully, it was a beautiful October day. For us, winter can be brutally cold, but the cold comes and goes and we have a lot of pretty days which makes our daily activities easier because when you ranch, you spend your days out in the elements, but it's a good life and we're grateful for every day we're able to spend together:

Temperatures have been on a roller coaster here, too: high 40s this week and -20° last week! I hope Indian Summer lasts until Christmas.

Just curious why the calves need doctoring? Can you tell I've never lived on a ranch or a farm or anything similar?! HA Ya just don't get a lot of down time, do ya? Glad you guys love it!!

Mother Nature had other plans for the south this year and we went from temps in the nineties the first part of October to the low twenties the last part of October and we skipped fall.

I always enjoy reading about your life there on the ranch. I have been thinking of you this week as we have driving from CA to our home in AL. What state do you live in? Traveling route 10, we stopped near Phoenix to visit friends, and now we are in Texas to see friends near Austin. Then home -- we left home Sept. 13th, so home is really calling us. I have been stitching on my 6 pointed stars and hexagons quilt (EPP) while in the car. Nancy A: SewingGranda@gmail.com

It looks so beautiful!! the sunset photo - oh that is frameable!! I've been on my own for a week - and The freezing rain moved in.... I understand your cowboys bundling up - I might resemble to Michelin tire man in winter - ha ha!!

I don't like the temps swings either. Fortunately right now I've only 1 baby to feed, that will be changing soon! Happy Stitching!

Looks like lots of work, but I have a fondness for a hard days work, it makes a soul fell useful, and especial when it can be done outside. Bundling up and getting out in the fresh air is great and coming home to a warm cozy home makes life pretty darn wonderful :)
I love all of your photos, thanks for sharing.
Connie :)

We thought our winter had arrived with minus temps at night a few weeks ago and now we're back to fall weather. We still have to thaw out water in the morning and have a few left over patches of snow, but we'll take the warmer days for a few more weeks if we can. :) Fun to see what you're up to as always.
