I Spy Quilt for L

I started a tradition of giving the grandchildren an I Spy Quilt on their 2nd birthday and in a few weeks, it'll be time to celebrate this little one's special day.

I've always liked the idea of I Spy quilts and I started collecting novelty fabrics about 5 years ago.
I have more than I'll EVER use, but I had so much fun choosing which ones to include in this one

I used a pattern from Missouri Star for these little mason jar blocks although I made the jar tops and sashing narrower than the pattern suggested.

I used a blue grunge for the background, a gray from my stash for the jar lids, and the same gray for the binding.

I was tickled to find this wide back plaid to put on the back

Jackie's and Sandy's quilting always brings the flimsy to life.

There are 81 different jars filled with fun things to discover and it finishes at 58" x 67"

I stitched love and prayers into every seam

One sweet finish for our precious grandson

I Spy Quilt

Last year I made an I Spy quilt for my coworker's cousin. I'd been collecting novelty fabrics for a while, knowing there were more I Spy quilts in my future

I so enjoyed selecting fun prints

And I put 110 different ones in this special quilt. Edited to add a better photo here 2 years later. This quilt has been washed often and loved well

Sandy added the perfect quilting patterns called Jigsaw and it finishes at 60 x65

I added this fun stripe for the binding and the blue dot, both from my stash.

This was a birthday gift for our granddaughter and it was a hit

She was captivated

As was I, watching her discover each square

At one point she saw a square with Santa and she piped up enthusiastically, "Ho Ho"! 😂

Last week I took a huge stack of squares to work to share with another coworker. She wants to make 2 for her granddaughters and another friend wants to make 4. I have enough fabric to fill all their needs. 😂

I think it's safe to say, this quilt will be well-loved

It was made with love with prayers stitched into every seam for this special little nugget

I Spy Quilt for Clayton

3 weeks ago a co-worker shared that her cousin's baby was having surgery in Houston. He was born with Craniosynostosis - a premature fusion of the cranial sutures (soft spots). I went home and began pulling fabrics for a quilt.

I've been collecting fabrics for I Spy quilts for some time and I thought Clayton needed one so sewing commenced. I used a disappearing 9-patch for the design and pulled lots of fun 5" novelty prints for the blocks:

I pieced it in 3 days and took it to Jackie who had it ready when I was back in town on Monday for work. I sat down to bind it the next day and thought I'd try to bind it by machine. I figured the blue binding, combined with the blue Minky, might hide any wobbles and I have to say I'm pretty pleased with it, but I love stitching binding by hand:

I backed it with blue Minky for that cozy, cuddle effect

I will give it to my co-worker on Monday. There are 56 little squares for him to seek and find in this quilt that finishes at 48" x 58"

After a successful surgery, Clayton is home - surrounded with love and prayers. He's busy healing and  exploring and growing and thriving. Praising God for the medical team and technology that made it possible and excited to watch this little boy discover all the new adventures that lie ahead and I hope he drags this little quilt along for the ride:
