Don't Fence Me In

There has been no sewing going on lately, only number crunching and tax prep. I recently spent some time down in Texas with my mom. Since Daddy passed away, I have become the resident real estate accountant. I told Daddy I didn't sign up for this, but since I'm a Daddy's girl, and would do anything for him, here I am.

It was good to spend some time with my Mom and to catch up with family friends and help out with the business, but I have a hard time breathing in the city. By the 3rd day, I'm beginning to hyperventilate and this pretty much is my mantra the entire time I am not on my dirt road:

Believe me, I praise God each and every day for letting me live this lifestyle. I was born in Frankfurt, Germany for heaven's sake. Isn't it cool how he gives us the desires of our heart? As soon as I turned down my dirt road last night, those windows came down and I threw my arms out...well, actually only one arm since I was driving, and belted this out. I could breathe and that 30° fresh air was glorious!

I can be social when I have to be, but a fish can only be out of water for so long before you would be smart to throw it back in. If you don't, it's going to take matters into it's own hands...well, fins...and slap you with it's tail in order to be released, and I like to think I'm a nice gal and really prefer not to do any slapping.

Welcome home!
And I must agree, no slapping would be best.

I have to agree with you 100%. I've been to some big cities and it just makes me restless and if I have to stay the night somewhere I usually can't sleep because of the noise. Lately i've been walking everyday. Some on an indoor track and then some on our gravel road and It's just so much nicer to walk outside and see the beautiful scenery. I am greatful everyday to be be able to live in the country.

Even though I live in a small town (only 10,000 souls), I miss living on a dirt road and the open fields.

Oh wow! I totally agree with you. The best view of any big city is in my rear view mirror. Open spaces and peace and quiet are my heart's desire!

It IS nice to have room to swing a cat and not hit someone. I love living on the side of our mountain and looking out over the trees to the distant mountains.... God is GOOD!!!!

God made me a city girl; I love the energy of cities, but I need down time too. Good thing to have some people in the cities or they'd all be hanging out in the country and then it wouldn't be country any more!

This post made me chuckle...like Michigan gal, I'm a city slicker till the end. I am now living in the middle of no-where and MISS the concrete, asphalt, noise and all of the lights of the city.

When my Dad passed all final arrangements fell in my lap. I knew it was coming but had no idea of the details. To this day I still refer to it as his final poke at me with 'parential revenge'.

glad you are home and happy ...

I understand. I live in a tiny country town but still consider myself country. Cities are okay to visit, but I hate having to tell my kids shoosh all the time. Out here they can make their normal amount of noise and use their energy. I also enjoy the peaceful night times the countryside brings.

I do the bookkeeping and payroll taxes for several small businesses (including our own ministry), so this time of year is always busy, getting W2's, 1099's and the employer paperwork together and out. Fun stuff, right?! :)
