Adding to UFO Pile

So, when exactly does a new project become a UFO?

Isn't the purpose to SUBTRACT from the UFO pile? I was on a roll and proud of the progress I had been making this year. Alas, I do believe that I have stalled out and I'm moving in the opposite direction.
I've started a new project..
Or two...

It all started with this box overflowing with 1.5" strips leftover from my Granny Square project which, no, is not finished. :)

I wanted to empty that box and this project called for 1.5" strips.

It doesn't get much easier than that and I think this is going to make a great scrap quilt.

I then thought I might cut a few extra strips for variety and before I knew it, I ended up with, yes, a 2nd box of 1.5" strips. :) This will make a great leader-ender project, although I do believe it defeats my original purpose.

Then I saw that Bonnie Hunter posted a Split 9-Patch for her leader-ender project this year

and I was reminded that I had this box:

2.5" squares all ready and waiting to be stitched.

And my collection of 2.5" strips just happened to fit right in to that plan. :)

Our Fall just got really busy, really quickly, so with the exception of 2 baby quilts that MUST be made, I'm thinking that sewing will not be happening around here. I figure these little strips will be easy stitching when I can manage to find 2 minutes to sit behind the machine.

And did I stop there? Of course not. I saw this S'mores quilt and thought that would be the perfect way to trim my overflowing box of brown fabric. I just made this one block and it may very well be a very lonely block for a long time to come:

I'm thinking that I need to  stop thinking.

Oh, it you didn't start new projects what's the fun...I've been on a UFO binge but started enough new projects this year to keep me in UFO's for the next year. Lots of what you started can be leaders and enders so you wouldn't really have to put them away. Besides, it's great if you need a gift quilt to have something you can finish quickly. Ufo's are great for that!!

It's OK, You just think like a quilter.

A quilter simply cannot have too many projects in the works. Enjoy!

The way I look at leader and ender projects is that until I start putting all the finished blocks together, it's NOT a quilt, therefore, NOT a UFO.... LOL!! The thinking of a warped quilter??? I think not!!! Cutting and stitching makes me happy, so I'll just keep doing it, whether quilts appear or not.

I like your last line "I'm thinking I need to *stop* thinking." That is me! I have way more ideas than I do time. LOL :-) Looks like you've lined up a lot of stuff to do in small bites, though, which *can* be a good thing.

I have the same quilter's sickness, so it must be catching. I love using my cut strips and squares to start new scrap quilts. In fact, I usually get them finished before other UFOs that were planned or a kit (which I don't do very much at all). I just love the first one with the light and dark strips. I can see me starting that too.

Sheesh! Go get some sleep! lol You wear me out looking at your productiveness; maybe I'll go back to sleep!

I've been thinking . . . if you precut your leftovers any new projects will definitely go faster. Hopefully that means fewer UFOs!

LOL! I do this this kind of thing, too! Glad I have good company! I'm trying to be more focused and just work on a few projects at a time, but this weekend I had had entirely enough of those projects so I pulled out some charms and my Twister ruler and made a halloween table runner. I really needed some *instant* (for a quilt project!) gratification!
