New Chapter

Not for us, but for our girl. She successfully defended her Masters of Science Thesis in Ruminant Nutrition. And yes, we're popping our buttons proud of this kid!

After our trip was postponed last week, we DID manage to load everything into the U-haul on Thursday with Harvey's help

We pulled out at 4 a.m. on Friday morning. We drove through fog and rain and snow and wind, but thankfully, no ice and made it safely to our destination:

I told her that for a broke college student, she sure did have a lot of stuff! :)

We had to visit the water office in person to start an account. Then we  had to turn on the water at the house a few hours later and for a couple of ranch gals, well let's just say, town living is going to be interesting. We have valves we have to change on the ranch, but the covers are solid and don't allow rain to accumulated in the hole. Not the case here. The hole is 2 ft. deep and it was filled with water. Of course, it didn't help that it was just pouring:

We could not find the place to turn the valve so our girl ran inside and began ripping open boxes, looking for something with which to bail water. She came up with 2 small shaker cups and we commenced to bailing. Add to that, uncontrollable laughter as all of this was going on. I was laughing too hard to stand up so I crawled to the house:

Our girl was convinced the neighbors were peering from their windows, snapping photos of the 'crazy new neighbors' and posting them online. We were beyond soaked. That yard was soggy wet and just spongy from all the rain. Finally success!

Don't you know we were a sight!!

We had to make the return trip home early the next morning so we just became focused on unpacking and a few hours later, her cute little house was turned into a cozy home...here's her guest room, complete with quilt. :)

We arrived home the next day, Friday, and I commenced to making Taco Soup, and Texas Caviar for her to take back to college. She provided food for the committee and department and since I couldn't be there, I sent food. On Saturday I made cookies early, sent her with ingredients for a cake, and she left out at 7 that morning. She defended on Monday, came home Tuesday afternoon, left for her new state of residence on Wednesday, and is beginning her new job today. Whew. Good thing she's young!

We're so excited for this new chapter. We loved having Harvey here for 3 months. He made a champion ranch dog and he and Skeet were quite the team.

Harvey soaked up his last evening by chasing rabbits and keeping tabs on cattle in the pens

 as DH put out hay:

Skeet is missing his buddy, but he gets to ride shotgun again when DH makes his feed runs:

And adventure lies ahead for our girl...and Harvey!

I’m happy for your daughter, and wish her many blessings. It’s wonderful she has such great parents. I think there are more chapters coming along, and I know you will love each one. Our children grow up fast. Pray your son is also safe.

As I started reading your post and scrolling down, I was thinking as I noticed you are in a "neighborhood".....I wonder who is watching and how crazy do they think you are???!!!! So happy your daughter is starting her working life with the job of her dreams!! My grandson sure got his dream job last summer. He had a year of wind energy classes and was chosen as a summer intern. When it was time to go back to college last fall, the company offered to hire him and pay for any classes he needed online. He is working in another state and really happy with the way his life is headed. God is good!! Skeet looks like he bounced back from having his buddy leave!

Our children grow up so fast. This is a new chapter in her life, but in yours too. I read once that the very best thing that we can do for our children is to raise them to be independent. That doesn't mean that they don't need us anymore and it absolutely doesn't mean that they don't need the Lord . . . but that they can make their own way in this world and stand on their own two feet. There are too many young people these days that just can't do that . . . it's a same.
Here's wishing your daughter a great start and that her new job will lead to an even bigger and brighter future.

Yay for new adventures! She'll do great and be just fine. You should be proud of her! I'll bet Skeet misses Harvey, and Harvey probably misses the ranch, but he'll be fine, too, as long as he's with his girl!

Congratulations to your daughter on her accomplishments! Strange that the city didn't come to turn on the water, but glad he two of you were able to "git 'er done!"

Best wishes to your daughter and Harvey.

WOW!! What a wild week but looks like fun for you and so wonderful you can do that with your girl. I know how proud you are and can't wait to hear about the job. Yep, I think the pups will both miss each other.

Big congratulations to your daughter, Karin. What an accomplishment! I hope she enjoys her new job and her new living situation. Poor you two in the rain. The neighbors probably weren't taking photos but I can guess they were wondering what you were doing out there. Too bad none came to help. Your girl will get the hang of city/suburb living but she'll probably always miss living in the country.

What a great memory these pictures will make when keeping the Grands and Great Grands some day. I am amazed at the moments we forget until we start going through pictures.
I want to thank you for this has reminded me that I want to pick some memories off my computer to keep in my albums. It is hard to snuggle up in front of the fire with a computer and grand-babies, it just doesn't work for me. I'm going to try and make each child one for this Christmas.
That's a beautiful quilt in her guest room. Congratulations to her and and her proud parents.

What fun memories you and your daughter made. Good luck to her on the new home and new chapter in your lives. The shots of the dogs are too cute, especially the last one of Harvey. I know that she is so thankful for her parents and proud of them as you are of her. Looking forward to more memories as the weeks go by.

I would have been laughing my head off too, and crawling along beside you after having managed to turn on the water in the rain! Congratulations on all the hard work, and may your daughter enjoy her new job and make new friends too.
