Bloom Where You Are Planted

I am currently working on binding this quilt (I will post about it when it is finished), and I took pictures before it was bound, but I happened to be driving past this spot when I was on my way to see my mom and took the opportunity to stop. I had the quilt with me because I was in search of a binding for it. I loaded these photos onto my computer today and felt like I needed to share this now - even if the quilt is not finished.

This quilt is called 'Bloom Where You Are Planted'. God has planted us in some very different places lately and everyone is navigating unchartered territory in an attempt to find a new normal.  I wanted to share that not only during these uncertain times, but every day, I can't think of a better place to be planted than at the foot of the Cross:

Even when there is barbed wire and I find myself in a patch of Prickly Pear there:

Even then. Especially then.

Love the quilt and what love the quilt name. And I love the variety of the floral fabrics. The phrase strikes a cord with me as hubby and I have always tried to bloom where we were planted. No kidding, no matter what situation we have found ourselves in, we gives thanks.

I just finished spring cleaning my sewing room along with some reorganization. I now have mu cut squares of various sizes in large glass jars on a hutch hubby made many years ago. I have three shelve with 17 jars of cut squares. Mike’s printing is better than mine so each jar is labeled. The hutch is black so the jars with the colorful scraps just ‘twinkle’. I have 2 jars filled to the brim with 5” squares. Lots are florals. I had been mulling it over what I could sew that I would like and yet be quick as I have a graduation quilt coming up for a granddaughter.

I love your quilt so much, especially the name. Most of all, I would be honored to follow in your footsteps so I could have my own special, sweet Bloom Where You Are Planted quilt.

As my daughter in law would say, “Let’s do a happy dance”. I taught her how to quilt and she would love this quilt also.

I had to end my post before I actually finished. I’m always thankful for the Cross and for the peace that passes all understanding.

Indeed, close to the Savior is the very best place to be, always, but especially during these difficult times.

That's a beautiful quilt. I love a good one-patch and I can't wait to see more photos of it!

I was reading through previous posts and ended up feeling so tired. LOL. You guys are so busy, just reading makes me want to take a nap.

I love that little calf. When you have to feed them do they become more pet-like than the rest of the cows? She looks like one who would accept hugs but you probably don't really want that on a ranch like yours, do you?

I hope the coronavirus is staying far from you and your family!

I had to return to comment again. This quilt, Bloom Where You Are Planted spoke such a cord with me. I have seen the connection with our current life events. I see the spirit of and faith of people world wide springing forth in love and hope and toward one another. I love this quilt! It isn’t color coordinated, therefore the significance of blooming where planted. The colors are ‘all over the place’. The floral fabrics bring it all together even though in a disparate way. THAT is the beauty of this quilt. That is the beauty of our country. That is the beauty of being an American.

I want to remember this lesson. Yes, I have been cutting lots and lots of floral fabric squares. I only passed over one fabric for my choices. So much fun as I’ve been quilting for 30 plus years. And thanks Karin for sharing your inspirational picture. I’ll feel so much joy each time I look at the finished quilt as it will always tell me that the expression ‘bloom where you are planted isn’t meant just for the listener but for all of us. Yes, a reminder for me to pray for others so they may bloom where they are planted.
