On Any Random Tuesday

I don't know that we ever really have typical days around here, but we seem to fill them up. On Tuesday I cooked for the crew again...Tortilla Stack in the crock-pot, corn, salad, homemade salsa, and Summer Berry Pie for dessert. The dessert was really a selfish choice...I had a small crew which meant there would be an extra piece of pie left over for DH and I the next day. 😄😋 I've posted about that pie here: Summer Berry Pie. It's our favorite!

Then I went out and pulled weeds for a while. This is load 3 in 3 days:

There are still many hours of weed pulling left, but this old gal pulled until she couldn't straighten back up and had to quit. It's been 36 years since I was 20 and I am feeling every one. Do I get to count that as a workout? 😉

And doesn't everyone's typical day consist of un-hobbling a chicken?

I noticed her tottering up when I went out to gather the eggs. Can you see the string tied around her legs? She'd gotten tangled in some string but she could still run pretty fast because I had to hustle to catch her. And I don't hustle so fast these days, especially since I was laughing because she looked so funny. Poor thing, but no worries, I cut the string and unraveled it from both of her feet and she's fine. We love our critters and do our best to tend to them with TLC.

Then DH enlisted my help to run some bulls through the chute to cut them. They went in as bulls and came out as steers.

It's not every day I spend part of the day bringing bulls up to the chute and running down to hold poopy tails out of the way:

so DH can do his part:

All the while I'm thinking, I should share this with ya'll. It's all part of  ranch life, but DH is probably thinking, "I wish she'd never started that dang blog." Sorry the pictures aren't that great, but I really was trying to tend to my job and avoid a scowl from DH. Scowl avoided.

And here's your Skeet shot...he's always ready to lend a helping hand.

And even though it's getting dark later, we still seem to run out of daylight and end up doing chores after the sun sets

Then as we headed to the house, we couldn't locate Skeet. We have this round pen:

And somehow he ended up in there when we were shuffling things around and then he couldn't get out. He looked so pitiful that we couldn't help but laugh:

LOL. Sorry for the bad shot, but it was almost completely dark. I tried to lighten the shot. Poor DH. He deserves better help. But, hey! We're free help. And there's a piece of Summer Berry Pie waiting for him at the end of the day! Surely that's got to count for something! 😄

That berry pie looks delicious!!! Yes garden work is actually a good workout! Do you eat the “mountain oysters”? When I was growing up, the VFW in our small town would have mountain oyster fries!!! My dad would always go!!! I have never tried them but would! Thanks for the Skeet shots! Love the one where he looks like he is in prison!

Maybe the used to be bulls could use some pie also. Your blog is always interesting and liked here and I am thankful for your posting things. We are finishing week 4 of house isolation and it is getting OLD. How many Hallmark movies with perfect life/ending can one stand? Today it will be true Murder episodes on tv. I think. I am stitching and DID clean up the sewing room. That's saying a lot. You don't know how much your followers enjoy the Skeet stories and all the rest. Good stuff to maintain mental health when trapped in the house all day/ every day with the STOVE. Ugh!

How I love reading your blog, though I seldom post a comment. Tell your DH he looks so masculine riding a horse, if I wasn’t happily married I would have him as a poster above my bed. Hugs to you both from the Netherlands from Shirley J, (I was 20 39 years ago; Ilove how you mentioned your age)

HA!! Poor Skeet in that last picture. So pitiful!! I'm assuming you were takin' care of the bulls' man parts/delicacies to some (YUCK!!!). Yep, you guys sure do fill your days to the brim!

Oh yeah was gonna ask if your salsa recipe is on the blog. I have a quick salsa I make that I like but always looking for another.

Karin, I had to chuckle at this post. I've been holding poopy tails a lot here lately:) I guess no matter where you're ranching, the days will be similar. As ranch wives we wear so many hats and they can change many times in a day. From pulling weeds, to cooking and chasing cattle, its never a dull lifestyle. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you so much for your blogging. I look forward to reading about your ranch life. I grew up on a ranch, and this is like going home! I also love your sewing life. Just thanks, for being there

Oh, poor Skeet. Glad you noticed he was missing and went back to rescue home. Yes, I have held a few "poopy tails, there is nothing quite like getting swatted across the face with one!

I have pulled weeds until I think I have tennis/weed elbow and I'm not finished. The yard does look better, I am a little worse for the wear.

Pie looks delicious.

In all that, my mind keeps thinking...
Tortilla Stack in the Crock Pot???
Hmm... That sounds like something my family would like. If only I knew how to make it!
