Meet Skeet

We've had dogs our entire married life, but a year and a half ago we had to put down our last dog, Gus, who was 15 and we've been dog-less ever since. We don't need a working dog here, but it just didn't feel right not having a dog. I missed having a walking buddy, garden shadow, chicken wrangler, watch dog, and chore chum.

The fella at North Camp had dogs and he had 8 puppies. DH and I hadn't discussed getting one, but DH came home on Friday with a sack of puppy chow. I just looked at him and asked, "Are we getting a puppy?" He answered, "Maybe." And on Saturday he walked up with this:

He's a Border Collie - Hound Dog and he is naturally bob-tailed. DH wanted to call him Stumpy. Yes, you can laugh. I did. It's funny, but I thought we ought to have some other options. Goodness. I told DH that we spent more time choosing names for a dog than we did for our children! :)

We settled on Skeet. I think...and if he REALLY thinks it ought to be Stumpy, I'll cave. LOL.
He's been introduced to the cats and chickens:

The cats haven't figured out what he is just yet and the chickens just pitched a fit when he accompanied me to the coop yesterday.

He's already become DH's sidekick:

The yard gates needed some mending and when I walked out this was what I saw:

He follows him everywhere:

He's been a good pup, never whining even once at night. He sleeps on the porch right now. He'll be an outside dog, but we've gotten soft in our old age and are letting him in, where he promptly made himself at home

Yesterday morning I hauled the boys to the east side of Chuck Box and took Skeet along for the ride. As the boys unloaded and pulled on their leggings, I set Skeet on the bed of the truck to take it all in.

Yes, I think he's going to be a good fit:

How about a big "Awwwwww"? What a sweet heart!! How funny, him hanging with Gary. When we get a new dog, I do the care, feeding, etc. and the pup hangs with Gene. If the pup is with me and Gene shows up, I just don't exist anymore. I'm used to that and love all our dogs anyway. Have fun with Skeet! A person NEEDS a dog!!

He is absolutely the most adorable thing I've seen in a long time (and I have baby goats)! We have a dog named Skeeter, and she's been a wonderful farm dog. Good name!

I agree, he is a cutie. Looks like he might become a good size pooch. Yeah, I'd say he has picked his partner. But the good thing about dogs, they have enough love to go around.

Congrats on the new family member. Looks like he understands he was lucky to find such a good home and just made a little place for himself. He'll give you plenty of love, friendship and laugh for many, many years, I hope. ;^)

Oh what a little sweetie. This makes me want a dog too. We are petless now and have no plans to get any more. My DH has health problems and I am too busy with extra tasks that I would not feel right about neglecting a cute little pet, which would happen when their are not enough hours in the day to do it all now. If only I was younger, I'd have one in a minute.

AWWWWW!!! He is adorable Karin! He looks like he'll be a perfect ranch dog. But you might have to get another one... if he continues to follow dh around, instead of you ;) LOL

Not only is Skeet adorable, but it looks like he has quite the personality. Our three are all indoor dogs, which can take a toll on a house. Today I am spending my first day of summer vacation washing dog bedding. Load five just went into the washer!

Oh my goodness, Skeet's devotion to your husband is adorable. He looks like a sweet puppy but I think he has "old soul" eyes -- very mature and perceptive. I hope the puppy teeth aren't too sharp!
