Answered Prayers

If you've been reading here for any length of time, you know that I talk about rain...or the lack thereof...A LOT. Ranching in the desert is a challenge although farming and ranching is always a challenge no matter where you are since we're all so dependent on the weather. Yesterday morning DH and I both woke up at 2 a.m. when it began to rain. There was a 20% chance of precipitation, but we didn't really expect any. Often we've had 90% chances and not a drop fell. Needless to say, neither one of us went back to sleep. DH got up to watch the radar and I opened windows and lay there praising God. At 4, he couldn't wait for daylight and pulled on his mud boots, rain slicker, and tromped out the the pens with his flashlight. When he came in, I looked at him questioningly and he grinned, asking me if I wanted to know how much was in the rain gauge. When  I said 'yes', he handed me his rain slicker. Funny man. I didn't get a picture until the sun rose, but we're pretty tickled:

Most of ya'll are probably chuckling, but 1.5" makes a huge difference out here. We're thankful for every drop and praying for more because you should see how excited we get when the dirt tanks are full! :)

God is good!

Forest fires are roaring in central Wyoming, so I know many people who would also be delighted with that amount of rain, or any rain for that matter.

Congratulations on the rain!
We finally got some at my house, but I don't have a rain gauge. However, the ground is still wet this morning, and that's a very good (and unusual) sign!
I guess this means monsoon season has finally arrived!

I live in a city and we are always watching the weather - the river that runs through our city is very low. This is a huge indicator of drought for us and a forecast for forest fires. We had very little snow this past winter and not much rain this summer, but we are getting very high temps for our area (New Hampshire) - not a good combination. I can certainly understand how much more serious rain and the lack of it is for you. I'm so happy you got this much rain, I'm sure it made a huge difference. Hope you get more soon.

What the heck is a dirt tank? I know it's most likely NOTHING like a water tank..LOL

It is harvest time here in the Palouse, so we would rather you have the rain than being blessed ourselves.

Everyone thought I was crazy the first time I experienced rain in the summer in Texas (on a trip to Louisiana). You have "warm" rain. It is always cold here.

So glad you got a bit of rain. We have been having too much and my tomatoes are all splitting open too early. And the grass and weeds are growing very tall too soon. But the lawns all around are pretty shades of greens which is usually not the case this time of the summer in St. Louis. Hope you get some more soon. I want to hear that you are doing the happy dance at 4 a.m.! lol

We've been grateful every single time it rained this summer - even with a storm tagging along we'd rather not have. I'm at my sister's in Missouri today and it's pouring here. I love it! blessings, marlene

That was a good rain. And, yes we know what it's like to need rain desperately here in Texas. :-) This year has been good, and especially August! We've had a lot more rain than normal for this month, and we're praising God too. I know some folks have had too much, but we haven't here so far. It has been good to see the "wet-weather creeks" and ponds full.
