We're in the middle of our 2nd week of Fall Cow Works. 6 days. Breakfast at 5. Alarm set for 3:30. I've intended to write a post all week and now it's already Friday. Nights have been short and days have been long, but we're getting there. At this point, we're running on empty. We're putting out lots of hay in the pens:
While DH runs the tractor,
I cut the twine
and Skeet supervises:
The boys have been spending their days gathering pastures, weaning off calves, hauling them to the pens, and running them through the chute - where they receive a vaccination and are treated with Cydectin before being sorted:
The pens are filling up with freshly weaned calves:
As for me, I've been spending my days in the kitchen.
On Monday I left Taco Soup in the crock-pot, Fritos, grated cheese - corn - and cookies for dessert before I headed off to work at the sale barn. I took the BQ5 quilt to Jackie after work before heading home. I cleaned the kitchen, took a shower, and hit the hay. Long day.
But after breakfast and dinner, a few preparations for the next day, a trot with Skeet, I was hoping to sneak in a few stitches, but I've yet to darken the doorway of my sewing room. That doesn't mean I'm not thinking about it though. If you're a quilter, you get that.
I saw this quilt last week:
And I immediately made a beeline for my scrap basket. I didn't see a pattern, but it looks simple enough. I dug out some scraps from a quilt I made back in 2012. That's a long time to be stuck in the bottom of a scrap bucket. I just wanted to make the best use out of what I had and that happened to be 3 1/2" chunks. So I made a few blocks over the weekend
And laid them out:
I really like this little pattern and I think I have enough to make a baby quilt...one stitch at a time...between batches of bread dough and dishes.

Love that you were able to pull from your stash; makes room for something new!
Here's hoping that you'll have downtime soon. :)
I'm pooped just looking at the pictures! Skeet looks pooped too! You usually have pictures of him running around with his tongue hanging out not just sitting! Cute quilt tops!
Let me know next time you're making that taco soup, and I'll drop by! I'm sure one more mouth to feed won't be noticed...JUST JOKING! But that meal looks delicious, and I know it's appreciated.
I saw that same quilt! I love your version.
Busy, busy, Karin. So glad you got in a few stitches!!
You are da WOMAN!! LOL Busy little bee.
Long full days and a quilter has to sew--beautiful selection of scraps. Skeet does look tired.
What a marvel you are, Karin -- getting up so many hours before dawn and working all day. I'm sure your crew loves you for the great meals you provide to them! Do those baby calves miss their mamas? They are so cute. And Skeet looks like a great supervisor. Your new quilt will be perfect for a baby quilt. Love the colors you chose. It is a pattern I have not seen before.
Thats a great project Karin, will be a great baby quilt. A fun, simple pattern. Sorry for the extra long days, but you know the time will go quickly. Cooking anything new this time?
So whats your secret to the energy level! Goodness you have a lot going on these days!
Hello sweet friend, I know you are one busy gal! I too saw that quit pattern! Love your version!
Hope you’re getting some of this rain!! Records have been set here! Creeks are running, tanks are full and the grass is green!
