Jellystone Quilt Finish

 This quilt has been in the works for years. 

I knew I wanted to make it when I first saw the pattern in this book

I loved the name as well as the design. Yogi and BooBoo were a part of my childhood and I can't help thinking of them and laughing at their antics when I recall the name of this quilt.

This is hands down my favorite quilt book from my favorite designer. Carrie - you are a genius! I bought this book in 2015 and started pulling fabrics from my stash for this quilt immediately. I'd cut and add fabrics from time to time

and finally began piecing blocks in March, 2020

Every stitch was a joy - I just love these fabrics

 Jackie quilted fun leaves across it - always adding her perfect magic touch 

The backing is a $4.50 find from the clearance section

 at a wonderful little quilt shop called Front Porch Quilts in Benjamin, Texas:

I can always find something in my stash for bindings and this print made the cut to finish off this happy, scrappy quilt. 

I love Autumn and I was surprised this was the first Fall quilt I made and, in my world, Fall quilts in February are perfectly acceptable. 

😉 The day I took these pictures, it was 70°, but this morning it was 12° with a stiff breeze blowing:

The setting desert sun made this quilt positively glow:

But the earlier shots give a truer depiction of the colors. Jellystone finishes at 77"x92" and I'm so tickled to have it finished! From the first stich to the last - it was such fun!

Lately

I've been chipping away at my Jellystone quilt as time allows, but progress is slow. One of my readers requested I share my progress and not wait until I finish the quilt to share. I know I often post when I begin a project and when I finish one and not much in between. I'll try to be better about that. I've been working on HSTs

But sewing time is a little harder to come by lately. Last Friday we shipped out a load of heifers:

And that calls for cookies for the buyer/truck driver (the eggs are for our camp man and his wife):

Then our camp man got hurt so I was called in to help process some heifers:

Yesterday I fixed them(the camp couple, not the heifers. 😄) a Chile Relleno Casserole and today I'm making them some bread because I was told that was their comfort food:

We also took our sweet new stud colt

in to the vet so we could get him cut (here's what he thought about that!)

And we're celebrating a rare green spring with 2 recent rains (0.8 and 0.6 here at the house)

And that caused the Mustard to explode in the yard, growing over a foot in 4 days so the first mowing session of the season took place:

I know it's pretty, but it chokes out the grass and around here, growing grass is a constant struggle:

One Saturday we had a special Brangus Sale at the sale barn and then we had the Angus sale this past Saturday plus our regular Monday sales so that cuts into the week a little, but I really like my job and the paycheck helps support my quilting habit so I'm not complaining. 😉

                              

So my sewing time has drastically diminished, and when I DO get back in there, I think I'll be spending more time with my iron than my sewing machine:

Next Project

On Tuesday I pulled out this project that's been in a bin for many moons:

The strips of dark fabrics were already cut but I still needed to cut them down into the designated squares so I worked on those. I also pulled some neutrals and got those cut:

I like so many of Carrie Nelson's patterns. I liked a lot of her Schnibbles patterns, but I never made any because I was too busy making big quilts. I made 2 of her Pick and Choose quilts:

                                    

And this one (Ginger Belle) is on our bed - I made it bigger than the original pattern so that it would fit our King-sized bed:

A No Sew Day

We received another inch of rain throughout the night on Friday, into Saturday morning, saturating the ground and making for a lovely day to sew. DH had a Safari Club fund raiser to work, in another town, so he left at 6. The rain quit at 6:30 and the pups and I headed out on our morning adventure. It was such a pretty morning. Doesn't look much like a desert these days:

                           

Ya'll are going to get tired of seeing puppies splashing through the marshy water,

 but right now, this is my life and I'm not complaining.

When we got back to the house, I tended to some cleaning, called my mom to visit, and cleared the rest of the day to sew. I had big plans. Then the electricity went out at 8:30. Hmmm. What's girl to do? Why, cut out new projects of course!

Ever since I saw Carole's, at From My Carolina Home, mystery quilt from a few years ago, earlier this year, I've been itching to make it using 30's in my stash so I pulled out my bin and started cutting:

                                               

Then, still no electricity so I began to pull out fabrics to make this quilt:

Pulling fabrics from my stash is probably my favorite part of making a quilt. It takes me forever, and in the end, about all I accomplish is making a big mess, but it's just such fun.

                                

I still need to cut sub-cut these, but there's just so much cutting I can do in a day. I cut on the dining room table and my back doesn't like it after a while. I need to fix up a table that allows me to cut at a proper height.
                                 

The electricity came on at 6 p.m., just in time to shut things down for the day. The electric company mudded their way out and eventually found a pole down. So not a stitch was sewn, but new projects are ready and waiting in the wings.
